What brand of carpet did you use?

Gents,

Need to replace carpet and head liner. What brand and color is every using?

Have received samples from ACC. Their Charcoal gray is a close enough color match, but the pile depth is about an 1/8th of an inch to short.

Have ordered some samples from trimparts "Essex" line that is supposed to be thicker. We'll see.

Who's a good vender to order from, who do we try and support now?:confused:

Check with Matt at FMR (Fox Mustang Restoration). They were selling ACC & another manufacturer, but I only see ACC on their site now.

Thanks for the reply. I have talked to Matt, he is who I received the ACC samples from. The other company FMR had was Trimparts, and like I posted, I'm waiting on their samples.

I've looked over at Stock interiors but they do not make their own product, I think they just resell ACC and Trimparts products.

I'm just surprised that with all the restorations done on the Fox body mustang that no one has a good reccomendation for a brand of carpet to use. I must say that after a lot of searching, ACC and Trim are the only two that I have found. Both have good to poor ratings depending on what type of car the carpet was bought for.

I'm beginning to think those two companies are the only game in town, and my choice will be the lesser of the two evils.

I would NOT recommend ACC. The carpet quality is poor and the dye runs are never what the samples look like. AND I certainly wouldn't recommend LMR for any parts purchase. The guys don't have a clue about what is correct for SVOs. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the input. Okay no LMR. Who do you recommend then? No ACC ,who then? Still waiting for the samples from Trimparts.

This is what I'm talking about, lots of info on who not to use, but no recommendations who to use.

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of options out there.

Find a local upholstery shop and have them install whatever quality carpet you so desire in dark grey or charcoal.

NOTHING comes any where near the factory quality carpet. And in my past experience with ACC, their carpet doesn't fit to start with and then turns green three months later.

+1 on the ACC carpet review from Mike, I bought a kit years ago for a 5.0 car and the fit was poor, and it constantly "piled up" around any high wear areas!

The Trimparts carpet "Essex" upgrade has the proper depth to the carpet fiber, and appears to be of good quality.

I ordered their carpet and it seemed to fit at first glance. I was careful in making all my cuts and had everything lined up. I was happy with how the job was progressing. I started the final install, beginning at the forward part of the passenger side working around to the drivers side. When I got to the last section up by the drivers kick panel I found out that the carpet was molded too narrow in the drivers foot well. If you snug it up to install the kick panel it pulls away from the transmission hump and gets hung on the gas pedal. When you reposition the carpet back to the trans hump there is about a two inch gap between the carpet and the side of the foot well making it impossible to install the kick panel.

Needless to say I was pissed off by the whole situation. I have to call trimparts and see if they will make it right. Until I find out what they will do, I can not recommend their carpet.

That's too bad, I looked at Trimparts on line info and seems like they were more into hot rods and 60's muscle cars. Actually I have used ACC in several fox bodies and never had a fit issue however I would agree that ACC doesn't have the quality of material as I would like.

Green57: I used the Trimparts carpet in my SVO and it fit very well in the drivers foot area, but the corner behind the drivers seat where the passengers feet would rest is a not quite tight into the corner. It seems to fit well everywhere else. Apparently the quality control is not that great. Maybe they can send you a replacement that fits better.

I have the same crappy experience with my TMI carpet. The color and fabric look good, but the fitment sucks.
