having a somewhat stockish svo im having 26 year old stockish type problems (noises)

50resto has a 7.5 Yukon rebuild kit at 109$..but come on why is it so pricey?
Link contains an 8.8 plate kit WITH the friction modifier. is there a 7.5 kit like this somewhere?

Im pretty sure i need a new clutch as well. the limiting factor with the clutch/flywheel combos are that the svo trans had a smaller diameter input shaft so im limited to 9.25in~ size clutches correct?

link contains the only 2.3 referenced clutch replacement. If im shooting for high 200s should i go one up then?

Ill be honest i drive less than 5 miles a day to work and my local dragstrip closed so i dont really need a super racing clutch/rebuild kit.

last but not least.. i have the dreaded 1-3, 5th whine. it doesn't do it in fourth for whatever reason.. trans doesn't grind so im guessing its time for a fluid/bearing change? im pretty sure i could follow the t-5 directions that are somewhere on the internet. would it be worth a full blown 200$ parts+ labor~ rebuild vs replacing 1 or 2 select bearings?

Call my friend Van:

A SPEC stage II will be just fine for what your wanting to do with the car, just be sure to get a quality throwout bearing and pilot bearing, neither of those will be found at 50Resto, you will however find them at O'Riellys.

Make sure you go and have the flywheel surfaced for the new clutch disc.

And unless you are staying perfectly bone stock you could upgrade to an 8.8, although a few things like your budget are questions you need to answer yourself.

Very few vehicles ("applications" in car parts lingo) came with a 7.5 Traction-Lok, while most 8.8 applications did. Unfortunately the 7.5 & 8.8 parts are not the same. Result is 7.5 TL parts are rare, and pricey.

i am more of an opportunist modder and constantly looking at craigslist for cheap stuff so who knows an 8.8 may pop up locally.

i don't ever drag race anymore and run street tires 100% of the time so im thinking the 8.8 is overkill.

goal is to slowly build up to a porting/exhaust/18psi/high 200s kind of daily.

I figured since yukon made one there must be a generic kit somewhere.

You can always do the Lock-Right part number 1830, but you will also have to go get you an open 7.5 carrier.

The 7.5 traction lock rebuild kit is about $100 at the Ford dealer; the Ford kit did include the friction modifier.

the Ford kit did include the friction modifier.

Speaking of that, the Royal Purple already has friction modifier in the qt bottle, and Car Quest sell a gallon of organic gear lube with friction modifier in it for $10-$11

Just as an FYI for those not doing clutches, but a normal service, or gear swap.

On my last SVO I was in a pinch to replace the clutch. So I bought a cheapy replacement from Autozone for $130. It was a lifetime clutch so I thought worse comes to worse I replace it a couple of times.

The car eventually made 235/335, cut 1.69 60s on slicks with that clutch and was in it when I sold the car.

Your mileage may vary, do not take while pregnant, etc.
