t-5 fluid

I searched all over before i asked this question.You would be surprised at how many differnt answers i got and they all added to my confusion.So now i am going to ask the experts! My 84 svo which has what i think is a non world class t5 has a very minor leak and i wanted to know what type of fluid it uses before i drain and refill .
i have read atf/mercon , 70 weight qear oil, even a post where tremec recomends 30 w motor oil for non world class. Which one is it guys?

Definitely NOT gear oil.
ATF/Mercron is the factory recommendation.
Mike likes Mobil1 10w motor iol as I remember.

I've come across 2 SVO that had gear lube in the transmissions. Both trannys were smoked because that was used. Redline MTL is the way to go, but somewhat hard to find.

Thanks for the answers guys .You have people that swear it takes gear oil, i drained it and out came atf .But i had to know for sure as the 1st owner might have refilled with the wrong fluid.

I've been using Redline MTL and like it. I tried Mobile 1 Synthetic ATF then Royal Purple Synchromesh and had problems with grinding going into third gear when cold. The problem went away with the Redline; probably the synchro's are worn and the Redline just happened to have the right friction modifier recipe. I bought it from Summitracing, I couldn't find it locally.

I run Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF is all three of my Fox mustang 5 speeds. Love it.

Yeah.....I just use the $4.99 store brand stuff and have for years without incident. I don't need the extra 40 horsepower that Redline, Royal Purple or Mobile 1 provide.....for 3 times the cost.

lol blueboss i wish it was that easy 40 hp for what almost 3 qts humm how much would i have to buy for 400hp ?

humm how much would i have to buy for 400hp ? It's not as much a matter as how much to buy, but rather how to carry that much in the car with you. You'd pretty much have to remove the rear seats and fill it from there back - completely fill the hatch area.

I recommend larger side mirrors.
