View Full Version : OK, need assistance on my SN95 LCA swap - Pic attached - HELP!

OK guys, so I started this swap this past weekend and need to complete this by tomorrow so any assistance IS MUCH APPRECIATED. Working on my '84 SVO swapping all OEM parts with SN95 LCAs, Steeda X2 Ball Joints, MM Spindle/BJ spacer, Koni struts, and MM caster camber plates. I just repacked the bearings on the rotor and tried to install it and it's rubbing on the LCA. Not sure why there is no clearance between the rotor and the LCAs. All that I have 1728read stated this is a direct swap with no issues. It's as if the spindle need to go farther down on the BJ stud so the rotor can clear the LCA. Please assist. See pic attached. Thank you!!

Additional info on the swap, Flaming river manual rack, steering shaft, Hotchkis sway bar.

I removed the MM spacer and the spindle seats down where it should and the rotor clears, but now the BJ studs runs out of threads to tighten the nut down. the BJs came with 2 washers for each studs, not sure what the washers are for.

Are you using SN95 spindles? Or stock SVO spindles?

I have the same configuration on my 84 with no clearance issues. Exception: I used SVO rotors and standard sn95 ball joints. Perhaps you have the incorrect bearings installed in the rotor and it's sitting too deep on the spindle?

Mike, I had to do some clearancing on my LCAs in order to clear. Also had to clearance the backing plates.

In other words, get out the grinder.

Given the way the arms are stamped, I think there is some variability from arm to arm when it comes to excess metal to the rotor side.

I test fit a set of OEM SVO rotors and the same situation occured. I also removed the dust shields and discarded them as stated in the MM instructions. The issue seems to be the X2 ball joint and the MM spindle adapter. If I remove the adapter, the clearance issue is resolved. Could I use the X2 ball joint and instead of using the spindle adapters, just bolt it down and utilize the washers that MM provides? They suggest this when using the X2 BJ with FOX body LCAs.

I just spoke to Mike at MM. He is telling me to dump the X2s and put back in the standard SN95 BJs. He said that Steeda recommends using a 13 inch rotor with the combination that I have. By going to a bigger rotor there will be no clearance issues. I guess I'm pulling it all back apart and changing out the BJs. :(

Ahhh, it's all back together now with nice, new MOOG ball joints. No issues and I was able to reinstall the dust plates.

Which control arms did you use (94-95 or 96+) and what struts are you using (foxbody struts or SN95 struts)? I'm looking at this swap next summer.

'99 Cobra LCAs, Moog balljoints, stock spindles, MM spindle shims, SVO konis.
