Charging system / fuel?

Si I had a burned up alt wire plug so I installed a one wire alt and it is installed correctly, the same wiring as the gt that I have. I checked the batt and it charging correctly. I drove it about a mile and she started to sputter and died, it stats but when I step on the gas it dies. I will say i installed a new filter and new in tank pump removing\g the external pump and it ran well after that. Here the issue I brought it home on a tow truck :( and now it wont fire up and no fuel in the rail I dont her the fuel pump relay click or the pump running for a second or two before turning it over. is there any link between the alternator plug /wiring and the fuel system? I will also say that when it dies and i lifted the hood I heard a hiss on the drivers rear area under the hood. I thought it was a vacuum leak

Any help in this area I will check voltages at the relay and see if thats it. I looking for the connection on the alt change and the fuel issue

Not directly related between the charging wire and the fuel system, however, the fusable link wire that feeds power to the EEC does connect to the same post on the starter solenoid. So check that wire/lug for proper connetion.

Hissing might be the brake booster?

You have a car with dual fuel pumps? Did you remove/byass the in-tank harness resistor when replacing the low-pressure in-tank pump?

OK after further dinking around I have found the hissing was fuel. I jumpered the fuel pump under the hood and it started again, hissing when the key was fwd. also the car started. so there must be a correlation between the wires on the factory alt and the fuel pump circuit. if anyone can tell me which of the three goes to the fuel pump relay I would be happy (i think)

Ok thanks for getting back to me I was surfing the forum and I found the same thread reading the folowing


With ignition in Run, ground the "tan/light green dashed" wire that goes between the fuel pump relay and EEC pin #22 (see wiring diagram above). If the fuel pump(s) DO NOT come on, it's probably NOT an EEC problem.

If they do come on, replace the EEC (or replace the TO-220 driver transistor inside the EEC case - some disassembly required).



Ok so mine starts when I jump that wire so I need an eec? Where can I find one and can I be sure. I dont have the cash to just try it Also if I jump that wire and leave it that way is it going to cause a problem ? I could put it on a switch Im not opposed to that

Not a good idea to just jumper that wire - that would leave the fuel pump(s) on all the time. That's a large battery drain and, imho, a serious safety hazard.

Verify that that wire on the fuel pump relay does not switch by using a low-power test light. Should be illuminated when the pump(s) are off when pump(s) are energized.

Put a "Wanted" Aad in the Market Place area to see if anyone has an applicable EEC available.

On all SVOs it's behind the right front kick panel. Where your right shoe outside would tap if you were sitting in the passenger seat if you were rocking out with the tunes on.
