Whoah Pony! (Or, Halloween ain't over yet)

So my pony is all back together again (didn't I say I wanted to register it in August as a deadline?)

Its now in the cranks but won't start category. I have a pretty good "cranks but won't start" guide to try out in my next set of free moments.

But it sounds like it is backfiring through the intake, and at one point almost tried to rev on its own.

When I brought out the timing light, I cranked it over ... and it wouldn't stop! I pulled the key out, but it was still trying to start.

Man, does my pony really want to run, eh?

I disconnected the battery cable, and it finally gave up for the mean time.

(I should add the boost control was half gone, so I bypassed it entirely hooking the waste gate actuator directly to the vacuum tree. That also means I disconnected the EGO over boost sensor also, which caused the light on the dash to light up.)

So, I figure this will need a new ignition lock, and or an ignition switch? Anything else might need to be exercised?

Ignition switch (electrical part, NOT the lock) or starter solenoid.

Connect the wastegate diaphragm directly to the compressor outlet fitting. The lag time to the vacuum tree is way too high. Also the compressor will over-speed when you close the throttle and the wastegate will never get the over-pressure signal from the tree.

Thanks, I have a premium ignition switch and starter relay on the way.

And a distributor cap and wires for good measure.

The more I think about it, the fact it was trying to turn over sporadically like one cylinder was the only one firing, and occasionally blowing back through the intake is pretty solid to me that it gets gas and spark. I think that should even validate the LA3 I just put in. Even when it was running before it sounded like at least one cylinder was missing when it was idling.

That leaves me, with as far as my mechanics skills can take me, reasoning why the car didn't start.

And this leaves me, with as far as my philosophical skills can take me, reasoning that these two problems were fortunate to happen together.

start playing with the firing order of the plug wires on the distributor cap. i had the same issue and my order was off. tried different spots till finally it cranked.
