I just purchased a blk SVO and I'm very excited. It is the car I always wanted. I have received mix advice about what is the best oil to use from friends of mine. I figured I should ask the pros, i.e., all of you SVO owners. What do you guys think is the best oil to use for the SVO (brand, weight, etc.). My SVO has low original miles and will only be driven in nice weather if that matters in the answer. Thanks in advance!

For the first 218K miles, I used Pennzoil 10W-30. I changed the oil every 3k miles and the internals of the engine where very clean. After the rebuild I changed over to Mobile 1 Synthetic 10W-30.

Mobile 1 Synthetic 10W-30.

This is my suggestion.

Hard to beat synthetic however most oils including synthetics have all but eliminated zinc which is still needed for any flat tappet cam like early 2.3's Most cars have all gone to roller cams so that isn't an issue even on a new break in motor. I would always find a zinc addative and use it with every change.

Wow. I think the proof is in the pudding. I use Mobil 1 10W-30 as well in my SVO, but if I had put 200K+ with Penzoil/Quaker State/Crisco, you wouldn't be able to pry it out of my cold, dead hands.

I have used Mobil 1 10W30 for a long time. But recently their quality and consistency dropped and I have now switched to Royal Purple.

Used Mobil 1 10W30 when purchased new, then changed to Amsoil in the early '90s. Have been using Amsoil 0W30 for years with no problems. Currently at 80,000 miles.

Don't forget that the Feds have forced them to remove zinc. So the Penzoil today is not the same as when i was using it.
