I just bought a SVO. It is completely stock. The problem I'm having is that the turbo boost stops at 9 psi and that distinct turbo whistle from all SVOs is completely absent. Please help!!!! Thank you in advance.

Do you have the Regular/Premium switch on premium and if so do you know it is working? In regular boost is limited to 10psi

Thanks for the quick reply. Today was the first day I drove it and the switch was not on Premium. I filled the tank with premium and then put the switch to premium and the light went on. But the boost did not go past 9 or 10. So, maybe the switch is not working. The "no turbo whistle" concerns me. Have you heard of that happening?

Not to worry - if you're getting 9PSIG, the turbo is working.

Read up on the Boost Control System. Time to check the electrical stuff, boost control solenoid, and assorted hoses.

Get us some details on year and assorted mods and we'll point you in the right direction. Maybe even post pics of the small hoses around the turbo and fender area.

Thanks, Mike. I will read up on the boost control system. I just dropped the svo off to get it painted and should be back in 3 weeks so I unfortunately can't send pictures of the hoses around the turbo until I get it back. It is a low mile SVO and has 13k original mile. I bought it from the original owner and he promises me that there were no modifications. It just seems so weird to me that if the turbo is working how come I can't hear that distinct whistle? I have been in many SVOs and they all had that whistle sound that I loved. Have you heard of a working turbo with no whistle? Thanks!

Won't the stock air box quiet the turbo down quite a bit? I've never been in a stock SVO to know how quiet it is compared to an open filter.

None of mine have a whistle. They do have stock VAM and air cleaner.

Some do, some don't.

It seems to be related to intake side baffling (stock airbox, etc.), CHRA/wheel balance and damage to the compressor wheel (air turbulence).

Hey Mike, the sound of the SVO whistling is one of the reasons I love the car. It appears that mine does not whistle. Is there a way I can get that whistle sound without modifying the car? For instance, replace a part, etc.? I want to keep it 100% stock. It seems like I should be able to since a lot of the stock SVOs have the whistle. Could the no whistle be related to the underboost I currently have? Thanks!

my SVO did not have a loud whistle to it until I put an open air element air cleaner on the VAM......... I know that is not the answer you are looking for, but it is the best I can give you for a very small mod. so now I ban myself til my next post. Bar

Hmmm, interesting. The self-banning, that's a new take.

Can I post this at 4EP ? I couldn't articulate that it rarer to have the "whistle" than not have it!!
Then there were a bunch of post describing everything from spool noise to vacuum leaks! LOL

P.S. What do I send this guy an NOS shift boot or a Boost Control Solenoid? Wait they are both $300!
