I may have the chance in the spring to go to NY to Watkins Glen and be able to drive a couple laps on the track. Has anyone been able to do this before and what did it cost???
I would really enjoy this but not if it is gonna cost some rediculous price.

Watkins Glen is a historic track. I raced there in the 80's before J.D.McDuffie did the fatality thing at a NASCAR race and caused the chicane to become a part of the track. I paid ~$450 entry fee and got back ~$1200 in prize money. Your mileage may vary.

The cost completely depends on which group you'll be running with. Costs out here run between $175 to over $400 a day. If I had the chance to run Watkins Glen, I'd sure find a way to do it.

No matter the cost, anytime you get to run a historic track it's always worth the coin. ALWAYS!

I did some checking and did find a price. It looks like it costs about $25 for three laps behind a pace car (please dont let it be a chevy:p) at 55 mph. If that is true at least it is affordable and I could still say i got to have my car on the track I guess.
It would be fun to go a lot faster but cost is a big issue right now.

If you go, you also really have to visit that famous pub in Corning where all the racers go to celebrate their vistories. All sorts of racing memorabilia hanging on the walls in that place.

It's the greatest track in the country (and even more fun than COTA, which I just drove three weeks ago in my new Boss302). The most history, the best challenges, the most challenging turns, the greatest hillclimb to the top, the best crazy turns, and the best place to spend a weekend. It's worth taking a vacation just to drive there from wherever you are.

Back in the early 90's I used to do time trials on Pocono Raceway and also had a trip once to Watkins Glenn. The group was EMRA and the cost for a Sat or Sun time trial was around $125 which include 3 practice sessions plus the actual time trial. Just checked, EMRA is still around and they had the Watkins Glen time trial was July last year (2012). No info on the 2013 schedule yet....
