So if you had some 50 cal Brownings mounted on the wings, when you fired would you out run the bullets?

Eventually, Yes.

Assuming the vehicle was in motion, going in the same direction, had sufficient altitude, etc. Eventually the 50cal projectiles will reach the ground as gravity changes their path while the shuttle would travel further (assuming sufficient altitude, etc.).

What would be trick is to have the 50cal's mounted to fire out the rear and see how much farther the shuttle could glide with the extra "push" of thte guns firing. Probably best to test this over a large body of water.
