Mass Air Conversion

I thought I found some internet reference material on converting over to a lightning mass air meter but cannot seem to find it anymore. Years ago, I converted my 88 5.0 over to mass air. It was rather simple as a pigtail kit with pin-out instructions was readily available. Does anyone have any info links on this for our application?

There is a ton of info on this conversion and the conversion is discussed at length on TF, turbo ranger, Nato, ect. I do not know what kind of car you have and I assume an SVO, but I don't know if it is an early or late model. But either way send a note to Caroth. He has done and helped with a lot of conversions using PCMS and using a Moates adapter on most of the processors.

it seems like by the time you are into a MAF swap (binary editor license, tuning hardware, MAF meter, tubing and couplers, harness/pigtail, labor) you might as well have just done a megasquirt swap.

NOT criticizing, just telling others what i wish someone told me!

Don't forget to add a couple hundred hours to learn how to tune engines and use the hardware/software. It's not a simple task even if you have access to a loadable dyno.

It is not plug and play, but if you have a Wide Band O2 setup (LC-1, LM-1, etc) and the ability to datalog MAF signal and air/fuel, it is pretty cheap. PCMX can be found for free, the MAF sensors are cheap (I prefer the 05+ slot sensor), so you have a $60 Moates chip and $75 programmer.

Just recently I have see two different post about using a GM 3bar MAP sensor in place of the VAM, now of course there is an ATS/IAT sensor in it also but I have done a couple of searches and haven't found any more info on this conversion.

I understand in theory it would be just like a Speed Density set-up.

There are currently 3 popular conversions w/ the speed density. One is using the MegaSquirt. Another is using something similar with the micro squirt or Pimp from Stinger. A third is using a QuarterHorse and LA3. I will post more info later.
