Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Lube

Hey, am I seeing this right? Granted it was just a cursory glance as I was replacing the steering rack yesterday, but do the lower control arm ball joints really have no zirc fitting to lube it with?

I'll need to do a boot replacement sometime in the near future...

Correct. Most Ford cars/trucks over the last 40+ years do not have lube fittings.

So what are the options? I am in the process of replacing the boots. My plan was to place new grease on the top of the ball joint prior to installing the new energi suspension boots.

he most difficult part would be removing the old grease, since it's old, dirty and at best - 25 years old. I'd use some acetone (which may require re-painting the ball joint area of hhre arm), brake cleaner & some old toothbrushes (which to remove the old grease. Once it's all clean, and dry form the cleaning, then apply some lithium-based, waterproof moly lube (my fav) or white grease (looks cleaner). Work it all around the ball and socket and leave a tablespoon or so inside the boot area before assembly.

Should keep you until year 2020.
