Did the early '84 have the "SVO" sticker on the fenders? I know they had one on the hatch, but I've been unable to locate any pics of the sticker on the fenders.

Thanks....

84 models only had that decal on the rear deck lid. In contrast to body color, most decals were black.

Somewhere I have placement dimensions and pictures.

Curiously the parts manuals and body repair manual for 1984 showed a chrome SVO emblem on the front fenders and RF dash piece but these never made it to production. I found them in the parts manual and attempted to order some in early 84 - Ford didn't have and couldn't get any. One of those things that changed before the car was released to production, while the manuals went to print many months before. Kinda like software in the 90's (it was in the manual but not in the product, and vice-versa).

Later SVOs (1985+?) had a chrome emblem on the front fenders and rear decklid and no decal. Patrick and Kendal will know the specifics better than I.

Iir, I'll post the decal placement data later.

I have one of the early '84 sales brochures, and you are right, it shows the "emblem" on the decklid and fenders. I could have sworn I saw the sticker "SVO" decal on the fenders when I was a kid growing up near Houston. I used to race my IROC against the SVO! It would beat me on the launch..........but the IROC would win the stretch!;)

The early 84 I bought new and still have did not have a decal on the fenders. Maybe Kevin K will chime in, he bought a new very late 84. I dont think his had one on the fenders either. Ken Potter might chime in on the 85.5 he bought new and give us some info there.

Pics of placement of rear MUSTANG emblem and SVO decal on rear decklid - 84 SVO.

I measured them before paint and re-installed new ones to the exact same positions. These should be self-explanatory.

My early 84 (build date of 10/83) only had chrome SVO on the hatch nothing on the fenders. This is exactly what is shown in my original 1984 SVO brochure (also printed 10/83) and in the standard 84 Mustang brochure that shows the SVO as well at the GT, Turbo GT, LX, and the L. They have several photos of the rear hatch and none had the decals! The decal on the hatch shows in brochure of the 85's.

Its obvious there are several variations so no one can say this is the only correct type

Did you buy it new that way?

Yes,

Also an 84 I picked up to restore a few months ago still had adhesive residue from its "SVO" emblem on the hatch. Actually I always liked the way the decal looked, but its not the way that first car was.
I may use the decal on my project car when I get around to repaint.

I still don't have a clear answer to the decal question. I've done some more research and discovered other SVO forums and websites are saying only the early '84's had the sticker decal on the hatch (not the chrome badge)? and too add more confusion...some sites are saying the SVO sticker was also on the fenders of some early '84's? Is there a definitve answer to this?,,,the consensus seems to say only the early '84's had this decal on the hatch. Has anyone seen them on the fenders from Ford?

The SVO decal was on the hatch of the 84 only. The factory did not install the decal on the fenders.

My late production car had nothing on the fenders. The rear hatch has chrome mustang and chrome. It was probably a running change. Believe the build date was 5/1/84. I may also have been linked to the comp prep introduction.

I already had the emblems when I painted the car, so I put them on the fenders. It just doesnt seem like a mustang without a fender emblem. I do have the decal on my hatch though.

You could aways stick a black decal over htta one - give it the 3-D look.
