Clutch Recommendation

Freshening the '85.5, so the motor and trans are out of the car. Any recommendations for a "stock" feeling clutch/pressure plate and throwout bearing? I'm having the flywheel cut. Just want something that feels stock, same pedal feel, etc. I did order the FMS steel front bearing retainer, and that will go on during the trans rebuild. Any suggestions appreciated.

I thought the Front bearing retainer didnt fit on our t5s?
I may have also asked the same question and someone suggested a Spec clutch which has the stockish hold levels

It does NOT fit the 4.0x:1 4-cylinder WC models nor the pre-WC boxes.

I read the other thread on here, but the FMS setup is discontinued. I have found Exedy 07038 at Amazon and Rock Auto. Looks to be a good unit for a reasonable price. On the bearing retainer, I have heard the same as Mr. Fleming. The front bearing retainer will work on the 85/85.5/86 units, but not the 84's. Fortunately, mine is an 85.5. I'm looking for a bone stock feel, as I like the pedal pressure and engagement of the stock unit that was in the car. In fact, the one in the car is in fair shape, but I figured since I already had the trans out, might as well replace now.....

Anyone care to give an update on this thread? It's time to replace the clutch on my 86 SVO. I'm the original owner and have put 80,000 miles on it since new. Since it only gets driven on weekends and to local Mustang club meets I don't need a heavy duty clutch. The original survived what I would consider aggressive street driving and two driving schools at Mid-Ohio, so a similar clutch should be sufficient. Autozone has one for $105 with a lifetime warranty, Spec for almost $300 for a Stage 1. I would prefer a USA made clutch, even Motorcraft if one exists. Let me know what has worked for you. Thanks!

If your stock the parts house replacements work just fine. As for made in America couldn't tell you about that.

The Exedy part 07038 works perfectly for me. It has a stock feel, and my car is a driver, not a racer. I have put about 7K on the car since the clutch went in with no issues.

My car and the auto parts clutches haven't gotten along. Prior to me owning it, my brother had two die on him so he bought a Spec stage 2+, if I remember correctly, that was installed on the car right after I bought it. I really like it. Nice clutch feel, good engagement, still easy to drive on the street.
