I have an '86 with a t3/t4 and a TC intercooler and stock throttle body. Fuzzy logic tells me I can place the BOV on either side of the intercooler. Is there a good reason to place it closer to the throttle body or does it matter?

Depends on the reason (or desired results) for installing the BOV. If you like lots of noise, then closer to the TB is better as there is more pressure volume there.

If you're wanting to reduce the reversion effect on the VAF/MAF, then closer to the turbo compressor outlet is more better.

i drilled out 1 large hole and two smaller ones on the intercooler itself. There is also the T silicone coupler that will accept 1inch bov/bpv

I bought a SVO intercooler that was modified to except a BOV in the body of the intercooler, works out great, nice loud whoosh when you let off the loud pedal

Guess I shoulda tried the parts I had first, I liked the idea of the BOV being preturbo, but I used the fitting from Stinger along with their BOV. The hose fitting diameter dictated the location of the BOV prethrottle body. I'll try this for a while not really interested in a loud whoosh though.
