View Full Version : Just a little help on the VAM mount please?

Hello,

Well, part of my problem has been my vam was running loose in the engine compartment. I locked it down as best as I could with some wire ties, and bought a used VAM bracket of someone.

Well with the wire ties, the tubing between the VAM and inlet has a hole warn in it.

Could someone post pictures on how the VAM is mounted to the frame? I've got nothing here, perhaps just a puzzle without all the pieces and no idea how they fit together.

The puzzle pieces are right there. There are holes in the frame that line up with the bracket if you look for them. Do you have the rubber mounts on your VAF? (three I beleive) Do you have the elbo and the air cleaner box? I can't get to my car right now to post pic's.

What year is the car? The mounting system changed over the years. I have LOTS of pics.

As for the hose holes, get some stuff called Liquid Tape and "paint" it on over the holes. Obviously clean the surfaces first then apply and let the coat dry, then re-apply slightly wider in coverage a couple more times. Comes in black (and other colors) and remains flexible for years.

Or get a replacement hose.

Thanks for your replies,

1) No rubber mounts on VAF
2) Elbo? No air cleaner box (just free-floating K&N). I do have what someone sold to me as a VAM bracket though.

3) Its an early 85
4) I was actually thinking guerrilla tape for now, but perhaps a little screen and liquid tape is in order. I believe I know of which you speak there... The hole is roughly 7/8ths of an inch long and about 1/4 wide in an elongated oval shape.

Many thanks, it has some differences but with that picture I was able to line everything up.

It looks like there will be some interference with the K&N, but I think I can get that sorted out too.

Anyone know offhand what the bold threads are for it?

Iirc they're all self-tapping (tapered end) sheet metal hex-head screws.
