Don't this just chap your ass? Kid came home last night said, "Dad, something's wrong with the SVO. Come listen." Ok, so I go outside, pop the hood and tell him to start it. Won't start.....I know it just ran not more than a minute ago because I heard him pull into the driveway. Ok, pop off the distributor cap, he cranks the engine over, rotor is spinning. Double cool.....aux shaft and dist gear are good. F-it, I'll work on it in the AM. This morning, I test the TFI and coil and find the TFI is bad. New one installed, car starts, I am the man. Timing set and ready for a test drive.
Test drive is going well until I notice between 3-4k rpms with/without boost it's bucking and backfiring out the exhaust.........which is new. No worries. Drive it a little further and the symptom gets no worse but no better either. Go to turn the corner for the house and it dies and won't restart. Get pushed back to the house and commence to troubleshooting. TFI tests good, coil tests good, PIP prolly bad. I pull the dist out to service the pip and I find this.....http://www.svocop.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=3898&stc=1&d=1362943443
By the way, afaik, standard oil pump. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Can I do just the bronze gear on my existing shaft or do I need to do the whole shooting match? This is NOT a performance build by any stretch. It's a bone stock daily driver at <10 miles per day.
