Boost is good!!!!

I've had my SVO for 2 1/2 years. When I bought it it was only boosting 6psi on low octane and 10 with the switch flipped. It was sad. I purchased a boost controller and I was able to achieve 11 or so. Not great. The car felt alright, but I knew there was something wrong. I hadn't had much time to mess with it, and I don't drive it much so I let it be.

However this weekend a friend of mine offered to take a look. He has much more experience with turbo cars so I said alright.

To make a long story short. It turned out that the boost controller lines were not routed properly. Changed those up and boost is back. What an amazing feeling!

She's making 15psi on the factory gauge and autometer gauge says 11psi. Honestly I don't know which to trust, but I cranked it up to 17 1/2 on the factory gauge 14 on the autometer. I heard some detonation so I backed it down to 15 and it seems to be running very well.

I'm so excited. It feels just like the one I drove in the late 80's. It's awesome!

Awesome. That's how it is supposed to work, exhaust gases enter into the turbo then witchcraft happens, then you go faster.

So what changed?

The two lines into the solenoid were not correct. One was t'd from the manifold. The other to the actuator. Actuator side was right, but the other should have been on the compressor side. I installed the boost controller when I first got the car/ I don't know much now, but I really knew nothing then. So I guess I should have known to check there. Since the stock system never worked right I just made the assumption it was something mechanical with the wastegate or actuator. You know what they say about assumptions. :)

I see you must be a busy guy and that you wanted an SVO (but had done much with it) since June 2010!

I'm interested in the "lack of info" exchange to you for support ! ( I am guilt too -as when I saw you bought a 100% stock car and paid 9k, I assumed it needed nothing) ONE photo and anyone here would have been able to help in real time.

We all love the type interest you showed the SVO, offered website for free and donation to Jim. (we all do the same) BUT I can't help to think that you may have gotten turned off to forums or clubbers in general!
IF you have been lurking I hope that you have made friends here or used the resources to help !

Anyway enjoy the car, with boost control and Autometer there is probably a modern radio in your future. You don't have a comp prep right?

I have been very busy. The SVO certainly didn't need much. I say it was 100% stock, but that's not entirely true. It had a shock tower brace and an extra bar welded across the bottom to connect the two sides of the k-member. So i'm pretty sure the guy who had it before me did some racing. Otherwise the BCS needed replacing. I elected to get a gretty boost controller because I got a good deal on a used one from a buddy. I knew very little at the time, and to be honest I was pretty happy with the performance I got with it (as bad as it was it was better than with the stock BCS). Not great, but it got me to the car shows. I also purchased a Turbo Coupe intercooler a while back. With the boost I had it wasn't doing anything. Actually felt a little bit worse with it, but since I cranked up the boost I put it back on and it's been better. No detonation at 18psi.

The car is still relatively stock. I changed out the stock air cleaner and box for a cone filter. That improved things as well. My near future plans are to get a FMIC and dual piston BOV from Stinger, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and fuel pump. I'll see what I can get out of it then.

Whatever I do i'm limiting it to bolt on items. I'd like to be able to attend the shows with the stock look, and believe it or not with my ipod the factory radio is not bad. So I plan to keep it.

Haven't lost interest in the group. Just been up to my ears in work. I still have plans to build my website and i'd like to see about getting some SVO or turbo Ford folks together in the DFW area. I LOVE my SVO. I don't think i've ever had more fun with a car.
