Cigar lighter power

Is the cigar lighter powered up all the time or is it switched? I'm looking for a switched power source for my wideband. 86 SVO

lighter should be all the time. When I hooked up my gauges I used a empty slot in my fuse box. It was near the middle and a single spot, a fuse wouldn't have fit anyway, I just put a spade end on the wire and it plugged right in.

Yep Jeremy,
I used a spade end plugged into a single empty terminal in the fuse box to hook up my Sony Walkman...probably the same spot near the middle that you used. I also installed a 7 amp inline fuse in the wire.
