What brand and where from are you guys getting a new tps from. Mine has started making the car idle at about 2k rpm.
The one that is on the car now is from Autozone and is only about 6 years old and not that many miles.

Also is a pigtail for the car side available???
I ask the pigtail question because I found all three wires are bare and getting corroded right awhere they go into the plug so I am thinking that might be my problem and not the tps but I'm not sure. I think I can fix the plug if I can find new terminals or somehow reuse my old ones.

I'm open to suggestions and ideas.

Haven't seen the harness-side pigtail since Forced-4 used to carry them but I suspect there's a NAPA equivalent available.

In the meantime, you cna disassemble the plastic connector (be sure to make good notes on which wire goes where!) and slip a 4"+ or so [piece of heat-shrink tubing over each wire and shrink it in place (I highly recommend using a proper heat-shrink heat gun). Then stick the wire back into the connector. The harness will get a bit stiffer from the tubing, but it'll separate the bare wires from each other.

Fix the harness before replacing the TPS sensor, just in case it's the wiring causing the issue.

Open up the wiring tray on the firewall all the way across to gain enough access to the harness stub. Then re-install after getting it all sorted.

That is pretty much what I had in mind Mike, but the wires are a little corroded and I would like to find new pins and replace about 4 inches of the wire at the end of the pigtail.
It took me an act of congress to find the tps part number from napa. And I havent found a pigtail from anywhere yet. If worse comes to worse then I guess I'll go to the jy and cut a pigtail from another car.

On the maybe good news side there is a kit that the tool dealers sell that have a bunch of test leads and there is a male connector pin in the kit that is the correct one for the tps that I am looking for. If the pins are available individualy as replacement pieces and reasonably priced then I am going to go that route and all will be right again. If this works out I will post a part number and price for the rest of us.
I am pretty sure there are a lot of us out there with this same problem. I think I will also splice in something in line so I am able to hook up a multimeter to test and setup the tps.

FYI: The electrical pins in the connector are the same from 84 though at least 88. Only the plastic thingies that mount the pics are different, but the pins inside can be interchanged easily.

My wife, who has this amazing knack at finding dang near anything, just happened to look at the tps for a '84 Mustang, t-bird, etc. with a 3.8 v6 and it seems the pins are backward and do not have a plastic plug on the 3 wires.
So I might just buy one of those and cut the wires off to fix my harness.

I got the '84 v-6 tps today and the connector pins are the correct one for the chassis side of the harness for the tps. So I am going to cut the wires off of a perfectly good brand new tps :D and solder the wires to the harness and all should be as good as new.
I must say, the price for three wires about six inches long with three connector pins was a bit pricey but what are you gonna do?

Keep in mind that this is for the use of the wiring pigtails only and not the entire TPS.
