I bought a VC from SVO4PWR2 for really cheap, which is perfect for me since Im really broke :) As I received it. This is just after the first sand blasting and quick sand. I cleaned up the casting edge and hit the sand blasted areas in a couple places with the sander. I'll re sandblast it and do a much better job cleaning the raised areas when I get back from my trip.

Thanks, I'm half tempted of just putting a coat of clear on it as is.

Make certain to pull the baffles off the inside and clean any sand out of them.

Those baffles Bob notes may be held in with push-rivits. Carefully lever them out and then tap the holes for real screws when re-assembling them. Be sure to use a coarse thread.

I see some paint on your future!

The baffles were screwed in, took them out before I sand blasted the cover, they also got sand blasted. I plan on having them re-cad plated.
thanksfor looking out :)

The baffles were screwed in, Somewhere in calendar year late 1986 Ford started using self-tapping screws rather than the push-rivits.

I must caution you about abrasive blasting INTERNAL engine parts. It is virtually impossible to remove all the abrasive material. So if you don't want the stuff inside your engine, do not blast with that media.

Fortunately most acid-cleaning-before-plating processes will clean most if the material out of the surfaces.

It will be hot tanked, out gassed at 450 for an hour, the out side will be powder coated and baked for another hour at 550, the baffles themselves are getting tanked, out gassed, chemically stripped again and cadium plated.
Hopefully that gets the media out of the pores :)
Ass far as the screws they are the kind with a bolt head and a slot thru it, not sure if they are self tapping but are pretty course thread. As far as I know this type of cover is from the xr4ti? Does the large breather hole narrow down the year used?
Thanks, Jeremy

I did decide to powder coat close to factory again with wrinkle black powdercoating, I didn't get it perfect but it should look ok on the car . So I just got back from my uncle inlaw's powdercoating shop. I have done all sorts of things car related including rebuilding motors, body work, paint, interior, I even worked at a metal plating facility in Colorado for a number of years doing anodyne, anodize and cad plating but this if the very first piece I have powdercoated myself http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i189/in2fords/1984%20mustang%20T-Top/80d8cebf-0913-487c-bdbf-526a0ec0d097_zps4eee20c9.jpg (http://s72.photobucket.com/user/in2fords/media/1984%20mustang%20T-Top/80d8cebf-0913-487c-bdbf-526a0ec0d097_zps4eee20c9.jpg.html) http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i189/in2fords/1984%20mustang%20T-Top/20130514_171104_zpsa40f13f0.jpg (http://s72.photobucket.com/user/in2fords/media/1984%20mustang%20T-Top/20130514_171104_zpsa40f13f0.jpg.html) http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i189/in2fords/1984%20mustang%20T-Top/20130514_125534_zps1af12dbe.jpg (http://s72.photobucket.com/user/in2fords/media/1984%20mustang%20T-Top/20130514_125534_zps1af12dbe.jpg.html) http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i189/in2fords/1984%20mustang%20T-Top/20130514_125527_zps2adb6613.jpg (http://s72.photobucket.com/user/in2fords/media/1984%20mustang%20T-Top/20130514_125527_zps2adb6613.jpg.html) http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i189/in2fords/1984%20mustang%20T-Top/20130514_171024_zpsac37c3cf.jpg (http://s72.photobucket.com/user/in2fords/media/1984%20mustang%20T-Top/20130514_171024_zpsac37c3cf.jpg.html)

its a 360 auto with the go pack, it is in good shape but needs paint so that's this years project for him, that's not even his best toy, between the 67 xr7 resto mod, the 77 bronco, the 70 javelin..... its hard to pick a favorite and he recently just sold his 65 fastback and 67 GTO :)
