I need a 3" down-pipe, preferably without flange, and a 3" in/out muffler that isn't too loud.

You can get with or without flange from stinger for 100$ shipped.

50resto has a 30$ 3in/out offsett/offset flowmaster clone. cant comment on loudness as my car broke before i could finish the exhaust.

brownsvo, thanks for that info.
I used Stinger equipment when I converted my TC to 3" from turbo outlet to the Y pipe.

I am more strapped for cash now & hoping to find some used goodies for the SVO that are a bit more economical.

I found a great deal on New Magnaflows using one of the discount codes from Advanced Autoparts. They ended up being right at $50 each shipped to my door.

Hey Brian thanks for the info.
Any chance that you have a vid/utube of how they sound?R

Mine is 3" downpipe and midpipe (cat removed), Y into dual 2.5" Magnaflows and tails. Gave a nice performance boost and sounds good but not load. Zero drone.

Thanks for the video, it sounds Good Brian,
I plan to stick with single exhaust since that was stock on 84s, plus I like having a bit of a sleeper.
I even considered removing the upper wing for that reason, but decided that anyone who knew SVOs would still guess because of the spats, headlights, & hood.

I wish I knew what the performance/MPG difference is between: single 3" all the way back, single 3" to the muffler then 2 1/2" or, 3" split to dual 2 1/2" exhaust in the rear.
I suppose that there are so many variables that it would be hard to know without testing each system on the same car on the same dyno.

I suppose that there are so many variables that it would be hard to know without testing each system on the same car on the same dyno. ... on the same day with the same operator.

Repeatability gets difficult.

It's like when someone claimed they gained 12HP from changing to "special, new double-whammy, triple chrome plated spark plugs". Well did they then re-install the previous plugs (or a new set of the same kind) to verify the engine came back to the original power level? Otherwise, it's not a valid test.

Exactly!
We still have to add in the temperature, the barometer reading, etc, etc, etc, of the same day to get true power comparisons.

Here is another one:
Some people claim that high performance cats are less restrictive, thus provide more horses from the same car than high performance mufflers. How many brands and varieties are we talking about there?
The variables of what works best, and what is the best combination, seem to never end.

Most of today's OEM CATs are VERY high-flowing devices and not much of a restriction at all. Most performance cars see less than 10HP change (when that's the ONLY change) from removing the CAT. Definitely more to be gained by the CAT-back then just the CAT.

While the exhaust emissions increase by 10x. Running CATless on a street car [on public roads] is illegal in all 48 states. Always has been, always will be.

Did we lose Arizona and Texas back to Mexico?

:)

Im also looking at doing a stinger 3" wastegate housing/downpipe in a few months, Im pretty sure Im just going with a side exit but will be glad to see how your full set up sounds :)

Old thread revived:

How much of an offset does the muffler (inlet as opposed to the outlet) need in order to fit an 84 SVO correctly?

Are any of you running the Hooker Aero 21505HKR 3" Mufflers on your SVO & if so are you happy with it or them?

Anybody have answers for my questions in the post above?
Thanks for any input.
