Im trying to do as much as i can myself and im snagged on finding pistons. Typing in what info i can dig up on the internet i cant place my finger on the correct Compression ratio i should be looking for. If stock the ratio was 8.0:1 should i shoot for as close to that as possible? I tried plugging in the numbers into the Jegs Compression checker and im doing something wrong as the final ratio is like 2.8:1.

-My Bore and Stroke is 3.810x3.126 (.030 over)
-Pistons in the engine while drivable where dished with a piston head volume of -.011cc
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_engine-piston-each-sealed-power_20689369-p?searchTerm=sealed+power+wl-2500+piston#fragment-2

Either im not looking hard enough or the .030 over forged pistons are not plentiful enough to be on the bigname sites. To me it seems like if something is too good to be true it is probably a higher compression N/A dirt/circle track piston.

I wouldnt have an issue ordering from stinger but the pistons are out of my price range as i would like to stick in the 300$ range.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/wis-k120a3/overview/make/ford to me these look alright, but what sticks out is they are not dished like the ones i took out. Perhaps the previous guy put in the wrong pistons? Positive displacement pistons would indicate higher compression or do i have it backwards?

i would order the same ones that are in the car but they seem to be hard to come by.

I would not go less than a static 8:1 as the off-boost power will suffer significantly on a street car. I'm running a static 8.5:1 in my red car but it's a highly-tuned 2.5L with lots of goodies in it.

Look here for a Compression Ratio calculator: http://www.csgnetwork.com/compcalc.html

I entered the following numbers: 1, 3.814, 3.126, 3.850, 0.045, 62, -11, 0.010

And it returned 7.993793340405149:1. ( Pretty bloody close to 8.0. )

I guessed at theh head gasket you're using, chamber volume and piston height below deck.

Changing from -11cc piston (Advance Auto spec) to a +3.4cc piston (Summit spec) raises the CR to 9.44744084140913:1.

You might also look at Race Engineering - they have lots of 2.3/2/5L Ford stuff (although might not be listed on their website).

Be sure to check out available ring packages before selecting a piston - make sure the rings you will use are available in that size (bore & width!). You want a moly-faced top ring, a plain iron second, and a three-piece PC-style third ring.

Also note whether the pistons/pins you select are intended for a press-fit (stock rods) or a floating pin with clips/SpiroLocs,etc.. The Sealed Poser looksl iek a stock replacement ring sizes and a pressed-in pin.

i didnt even think to look at ring sizes, i just assumed each set of pistons usually had a recommended ring set that the manufacturer sold as well. Seeing as i want 300hp would going to 9.5~:1 be a bad thing?
quick rundown: 16psi(big stock t3) max until i can afford a tuner, on 91 premium with a manual boost controller/square intake and upgraded fuel pump.

i just assumed each set of pistons usually had a recommended ring set that the manufacturer sold as well. You specifically want a ring set for a turbocharged engine.

You would be very hard-pressed to use any significant boost (>10PSIG) with a 9.5:1 static CR with the stock chamber and still be able to use less than 100 octane fuel. If you're gonna run E85 or higher, OK. But for pump petrol (91/93) then limit it to a max of 8.5.

Note the 2008+ Mitsubishi 4B11-T (EVO) 2.0L DOHC engine uses a static 9:1 CR (and a max of 23 PSIG boost, stock). The chamber in the Ford 2.3L OHC isn't anywhere near the same (side spark plug and all).

learned something new :) the wisecos only come in two flavors, 5.2 and 5.7 flat tops so those are out. Ill have to do some more digging in between load planning this C-5 :)

thank you for the help.

Have you looked on Stinger's site? That's where I got my 0.030 over pistons: http://www.stinger-performance.com/suspensionparts.html

560~ Is out of my price range. i have 500$ to finish this engine off, i still need pistons/rings, pay for my honing/hot tank.

Give a call to Frank's Head & Engine Service in Griffin, GA. (770) 229-1888 & speak with Frank. I hear they do good work & they're pretty good on pricing. He's come up with Rods for a couple people here when everyone else said they were on back order. They obviously did some great head work & cam design for the Silverstate car http://www.svocop.com/forum/showthread.php?1761-Silver-State-up-and-running.

For anyone looking i called Flatlander racing and got them to update the website :)
Its mislabled as ford 302 but the sizes are Ford 2300.

http://www.flatlanderracing.com/diamond-ford2300.html 335$ for 4 stock dished Pistons in STD/Oversizes :) If it comes with rings i will be excited

Diamonds don't come with rings at that price. They also use the stock ring pack size which is very limited for high quality turbo spec rings.

Just remember pistons (and the rings for them) are two of the more critical engine parts, is it really something you want to skimp on?

Well yeah, the prevous owner had installed 75$ pistons and they took my abuse pretty well. what killed the engine was me skimping on the oil pump and possibly causing the Oil issue that faithful day i went highway speeds for once. Im only shooting for 300hp on the stock turbo so i shouldnt need crazy expensive parts (no offense, i bought several of your exhaust parts) to get me there. Divorce, childcare, Mystichrome cobra car payment im pretty much broke.

Just FYI:
A related tf post today from TurboRay:

http://forum.turboford.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=056895;p=1#000016

HERE (http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_x_19691784-P_x_x&nAID=11138?SID=tfc_-_15_12_130604_34f34893b8f6ac496bb520da2008b010%3A0000&cm_mmc=aff-_-cj-_-1609763-_-10711125#utm_source=aff&utm_medium=cj&utm_campaign=1609763&utm_content=10711125) is the best price I could find for the Sealed Power versions ($78 each). Of course, these include pins, and - AFAIK - moly rings (but, not positive). FYI, .50mm = .020 oversize; .75mm = .030 OS.

And, YES, before anyone mentions it.....they're instended for press-fit pins and probably don't include pin locks or grooves (but, not sure). However, Crower Sportsman rods are available in pressed-pin configuration and are arguably stronger than their floating-pin counterparts, as a result of having more steel surrounding the pin bore.

AND I defy anyone to prove that floating-pin rods yield more power than their pressed-pin counterparts......ain't gonna happen, IMHO. The only advantage to floaters is quicker/more-convenient assembly and disassembly.

C'ya - RAY

EDIT: Use Advance Auto promotional code TRT30 to receive a 30% off discount - bringing the total price, with free shipping, down to 261.96 for all 4 pistons.

i have been around on the L250075mm, the link is for 50mm and oddly enough available. :( they are all factory backordered everywhere i have looked from Rockauto, Napa, Advanced, Oreilly, etc. Thank you,

Why the previous owner went from std to .030 over is beyond me.

Re-read post number 8. Can't say for sure they have them, but that's where I go when I hear talk of back order from vendors. I know a few folks from this forum that have gone there when everyone else told them what they wanted was back ordered.

Oddly enough everyone of the venders listed do not show it in inventory. Makes me think its discontinued. The diamonds are probably the next cheapest stock replacement

It's quite possible someone has those on a shelf that doesn't advertise on line.. .

Bingo!, i bought pistons and rods from a guy on here.... *drumroll* Convert a N/A block to accept the oil drain, the junkyard quoted me ~100$ for a shortblock assuming it doesnt need bored(and if it does, ill exhange it back) i can use the STD pistons/rods/crank in the mail somewhere to get out of buying a new set of Pistons.
