I have had my 84 for about 9 months now and just thought I would list what restoration/repairs have been done. Car had 122k miles and had been in storage for a couple of years after PO screwed up some stuff and lost interest.
When I first got the car it did run but not good enough to drive home. That turned out to be just the timing belt one tooth off. Compression/leak down test showed motor was OK, Turbo spooled up OK, no smoke or leaks. Pulled valve cover and local 2.3 guru noted the cam is worn but car still runs nice
With that fixed (new belt) along with basic tune up/oil/filter/fuel filter & coolant change here is what has done over the last 8 months with help from several members info and parts.
> Replaced vac lines to turbo control
> New Starter, clutch and re-surfaced flywheel
> New Battery
> Replace struts (got a deal on low mile used Koni's) rear's were ok
> New windshield, cowl grill & molding
> New exhaust (stock less cat)
> New fan control relay module
> New radiator, T-stat, hoses and belts
> New coolant temp sensor
> New brake calipers/pads, brake hoses (all 5) and fresh fluid
> New Heater Core
> New carpet, headliner, dash pad, Seats OK for now but will get them re done later
> Fixed Fog lights
> New weather striping all around, window run channel and dew wipes.
> New tires (REo50's)
> Complete Rear rebuilt (bearings, gears, axles/seals)
> New gas tank, in tank pump hanger (pump was new but it was just laying on bottom of tank on a longer hose!) and new sending unit.
Paint was redone by PO about 2 years ago but clear coat was never sanded out. Spent a week wet sanding and then buffing it came out real nice. Give the paint an 8.5 out of 10.
A/C system isn't working but plan to replace all the o rings, sensor and see if it will hold vac before I do any more. Not sure if compressor is good but will find out.
As for the motor, head will come off for a complete valve job and roller cam set up from a low mile 93 Fox will be going in, turbo will be going to Evergreen for a refresh at the same time. I have been collecting as much NOS stuff as I can find (turbo oil feed & drain lines, gaskets etc)
This wasn't going to be a daily driver but as it is right now I enjoy it so much I will be using it a lot more. The more I use it the better it seems to run!
