Hey, I am in the process of swapping out the harness that runs though the firewall to behind the instrument cluster, my car is an 84 and the replacement harness is out of an 85... Everything is same same except for the original small square brown pigtail that was hooked to a bracket in the dash... On my replacement instead of small square brown, it's grey rectangular with more wires... Does anyone know how to make this work?

there was a change in the instrument cluster in one of the years and you might have the latter that will mean you need the gauge cluster that the wire harness came from or the right year anyway.
Fleming should be along shortly to give you more info
also pics would help

Here's one of the wires on the 85 harness, will have more tomorrow

The charging system will not work unless you replace the instrument cluster, or at least change the green (84) ribbon circuit panel with a red (85-86) one. Is this the harness on the driver side or passenger side at the firewall?

Its the one on the drivers side... Part of a small cluster of pigtails that connect close to the column... I've heard you could repin it to work

I'm trying to remember, but there is an 85.5/86 harness connector that is different than the 84/85 at the bracket near the upper/lower intake manifold. The later model (newer) has a 6 pin connector that includes an oil level sensor. The earlier (older) has a 4 pin connector with no oil level sensor.

Some images of where/how the electrical harness (left side) attaches to the steering column bracket "shake brace" behind the dash on the 84 SVO. The dash harness plugs into these connectors. The white connector goes to the fan controller.
I have both the 84 and 85 EVTMs so - eventually - I could research the differences in those harnesses.
(shameless plug) I have a couple NOS 85 EVTMs for sale.

Some pics of the same connector ends on the dash harness side.

The rubber hose that's wrapped in as part of the electrical harness goes to the mechanical boost pressure gauge in the cluster.

In your first picture... The brown connector is like what I currently have, and my new harness doesn't... what runs off of it?

I need to go from the grey (85 7 pin) to the brown (84 6 pin) connector... I need to know what the extra wire added in 85 does so that I can repin it... It's the only thing from keeping this car running
