fuel pump question

I currently have the tank out of the car and am planning to replace the fuel pump, the inside of the tank looks brand new. Is there a way to eliminate the in-tank pump (84 svo) and just run a high pressure rail pump with a different hanger and pickups? A friend advised me this would be the way to go for serviceability. Does such a setup exist, I think a rail pump issue would be way easier to deal with than having to drop the tank as well. Anyone have this setup or thought about doing this? Any advice is appreciated.

Those systems were used up until 3 decades ago and have been comppetely eliminated since then. They don't work well in high-flow or high-pressure (>10 PSIG) applications. THE early BOSCH dual-pump systems (low-pressure in-tank pump in combination with a high-pressure chassis-mounted pump) were the norm and the SVO fuel system originally came with that dual-pump system.

When the in-tank pump failed, the first thing folks noticed was a serious increase in HP pump noise. Since then all mfgrs have gone to single, in-tank pump systems.

Use a high-quality pump and you won't need to change it for a decade.

I've never heard of anyone going this way. That said if you do a proper single in tank pump it should last a long time. My stock 86 pump had 150K + on it and 17 years still worked just fine. Only replaced it for a higher pressure/volume after market item. That was 10 years ago. No problems so far.

So it looks like the in tank is the way to go then. Could you point me in the right direction for a replacement pump and install kit?
I was looking through some old threads on turboford and saw autoperformanceengineering.com pop up. I didn't see a kit for an svo
But there was a 255 kit for a '96-'97 cobra that might work. Will that work or should I look elsewhere ?

any of the big pumps available for 100$~ give or take a couple twenties will work with a later year model fuel pump bracket

"Later bracket" meaning anything 1986-1993 for the FOX.
