Anyone running 3.55 gears in your SVO?

I used to have 3.55 in my red car, a long time ago. Loved them with the 3.51 gearbox.

Now it's sporting a 4.10 rear gear with a Torsen diff and a 3.35 first/0.82 fifth gearbox.

I am running 3.55:1 gear with the stock SVO T5 (3.50:1 1st gear). I think it is the best change I made to the car and yields 22mpg city and 30mpg highway.

Cool. Thanks for the quick replies. I have an 8.8 with 3.55's eyed up. Just to confirm, the 7.5 & 8.8 axles are the same and I can swap them and all my rear disc brake parts over. Just need to modify the brake line bracket on the rear?

Except for the axles (and maybe the axle bearings & seals), no other parts are interchangeable between the two housings.

Thanks for asking the question. I've got a 3.55 8.8 sitting in the garage and a set of 4.10 gears ready to go in but am not sure yet about the 4.10s on the street. This thread helped. Thanks again to all who responded.

I installed an 8.8 with 3.27 gears beginning of the summer. I love the gearing. Perfect for the freeway, makes first gear usable, perfect for autocross. It is a stock ratio in newer mustangs, got mine for 150 off of CL. I do have quite a bit more power than before, so that helps, but I think it is the ratio that the car should have come with. Jeff

i definatly want to do this.. for the price of a used rear end would cost way less than rebuilding.

Are all 8.8 of the 80's and 90's era from either a Mustang or Thunderbird an exact fit with some minor modification or are there specific ones?
