Aluminum driveshaft noisy

While I had the trans out, took the opportunity to install the Ford Motorsport aluminum driveshaft that has been sitting on a shelf for 2 years. Right away noticed a light (but irritating) "tinging" rattle type noise on decel and light coasting. Is this normal for these shafts?

Are you sure the your U joints are fine? I have never heard any problems with them .

I would first turn the shaft 90degrees and try again. I now on my shaft I get a little vibration in one position but not another. so much for having the shaft ballanced lol.

Yes, it emits a tinny, echo-ey noise. Many have commented on it.

Solid suspension & engine/gearbox bushes, harder clutch hub springs, excessive end play in the gearbox shafts, etc. make it worse.

Doug, you've been in my car, mine was as noisy as a crowded pub!!! The ali driveshaft is one massive echo chamber that doesn't have the mass to subdue all the vibrations and harmonics and actually amplifies them. I considered foam filling mine but thought that would ruin it. Mine was always noisiest when coasting down in third so I would just pop it out of gear and cost. Welcome to the club:)

The Aerostar shaft I put in as quiet as the stocker.

This is why some brands fill them with card board inserts or just Fill them with foam. I complained 14 years Ago and everyone thought I was nuts. You get used to it.

Carbon fiber shafts are much quieter. And more expensive.

... You get used to it. Nope, not me. Drives me crazy. Took it back out, put the original back in - drives like new again. Might have to explore the Areostar or carbon fiber options.

My Al shaft drove me crazy too. I had my orginal shaft re-balanced and put it back in; it's smooth as silk. If I can find an Aerostar shaft I might try it just to see.

My Al shaft still drives me crazy but not as crazy as my wife who berates me for "ruining" the car with needless "improvements". Too bad I junked the old driveshaft, I might have reinstalled it. Smooth shifting is an art now.

I still have my original driveshaft assembly somewhere in the shop. I suspect it's covered in critters, spiders and associated webs so I'm not going looking for it.

Since you can't find the old driveshaft guess you'll have to get rid of the wife, that way you'll only have one thing driving you crazy!

I held on to my original shaft for a back up, I have Ford Racing in place for now , I have not noticed any noises yet.
