Did 84's originally come with the alternator shroud?

AFAIK, No. My 84 did not have one.

My early date 84 has one, but I can't vouch for the 'originality'.

I agree with Mike, AFAIK, I don't recall seeing any original 84's with the shroud. I saw an ad for a low mileage 84 SVO and it had the shroud which I thought looked wrong for an 84 based on all of the cars I've seen through the years. Any input from original owners who can say without a doubt how their car was equipped from the factory?

Also, not having a shroud on my car, I'm not sure how they attach and if the alternator is unique to accept a shroud. :confused:

There is a small spring clip that holds the shroud to the alternator. I just swapped the shroud on the alt for my 9l Project....

Sounds like it could be easily added or removed (lost). Is it used on any other model cars?

It was, but I don't know what other models are applicable. The shroud I used/pictured above was actually on the alternator from the 93 aero 4 cyl that I pulled the serpentine belt setup from. You can see the the shroud in the parts pile picture:

No shroud on my early '84 slapper bar car either.
