Oil Sensor

So, today I came out to drive the SVO to work, and it won't start, or even crank. A little background is that I (finally) got it running again after the aux shaft/distributor gear grenaded. I had good oil pressure, no leaks, and have been taking it easy on it. Well a couple days ago, the "check oil" light started coming on. If i just turned the car off and back on, it was fine. It would still start and run.

Well today, the check oil light is brightly lit and the engine won't start or even crank. It almost seems like something is keeping it from starting since it isn't even trying to crank. My question is that if the oil sensor in the pan went bad, would the car have these symptoms? Or is there some other issue that would cause the same thing? And yes, before anyone says something, I did check the oil level, it is fine, and when I shut it off yesterday, the oil pressure was normal. The check oil light makes me think that it is the oil sensor since I haven't ever had it light up before on startup, and it is conveniently not starting at the same time it started lighting up. Any help would be appreciated in solving this issue though.

Did you do any exploratory work on the bottom end after losing the aux gear?
Have you run any codes to see why it isn't running? IIRC the oil light was a crude mil back then, so it could be signifying other problems than low oil.

What do you mean by exploratory? We cleaned it thoroughly and pulled the oil pan and cleaned it as well. I haven't checked for codes yet. What kind of code reader does it use? I don't have one. Been meaning to. Now would be a good excuse.

Code reader would be one for an EEC-IV, pre-EEC-V and pre-OBD.

Checked battery voltage? What is condition of ignition switch?

AFAIK there is no relationship between the oil level sender, the EEC (engine management) and starter circuit.

It might be the ignition switch finally went bad. It's given me issues before. I checked the battery, it is fine. I even hooked a charged up to it to jumpstart it and same result.

Personally, I would have looked into replacing the oil pump & the turbo oil feed line.

Without pulling codes you're really just guessing at the problem.

Well it randomly started the other day which made me suspect it was the ignition switch. It probably needed replaced anyways, it had loosened before and had to have the tabs squeezed back together. I replaced it and it seems to start just fine now. Only time will tell if it was the actual problem or not. I hadn't ever heard of it causing the check oil light to light up, but once it was replaced, it hasn't lit up yet. On the plus side the new switch has a lifetime warranty. Seeing how it's the same crappy design, I bet I'll end up using that warranty a lot. At least now I got rid of those security bolts and put ones you can actually remove on.

Well, check oil light came on today. It has to be something with that sensor in the oil pan. That's all I can think of. It still starts though. Just very annoying to me.
