Hi
Seems fitting to let you in on the recent project for THESVOTRUST. Seems we all help each other - Kendal Coker found this car a couple of years ago. HE contacted me - as the owner of the MacTools Race Car and said "you should buy this". (At the time I said - No, why and "I sold a 85.5 Comp Prep because I didn't want to use my NOS parts to restore it" (and that was a 85.5 Comp Prep). Ten minutes I owned it. (sixth car sight unseen - but not the worst)
Brought to MI in 2011 the car needed valve seals, brake work and to be repainted.
After documenting the spray patterns , as well as the original stickers (slightly different than those Andy reproduced for the 1984 car) I started disassembly in the winter of 2012.
Rear hatch had contacted the roof
Tim my friend of TPC Refinishing did great metal work to make right and fit TONY W's red hatch

We used NOS front end to save some time on fender and hood work! (sold the hood in Carlisle for 37.00)
Bought a header for Bill C (THX) in Carlisle
Car has been blocked and we will start paint tomorrow 10-24-2013.
Paint has been bought, we are painting the same way Bobby Fehan (Mac Tools Driver) painted these two cars in the 1983 and 1984. (note spray patterns)
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e136/svo2scj/photo_zps5b4a8705.jpg (http://s38.photobucket.com/user/svo2scj/media/photo_zps5b4a8705.jpg.html)
I have invited Bobby to come and paint the red and yellow trim (next spring) but getting him here isn't easy ! (think I have to go through his wife, as she can rangle him into the trip)
This is an exciting project for me. I swore I was finished restoring cars after the 9 year SCJ adventure. But true to my SVO devotion - I knew I could do this car faster and without the need of research and date coded parts hunting.
Mostly I am excited as I intend to register and drive the car. It is an important piece of SVO history and I'm thankful BOTH cars are together.
Mark
P.S. Will continue to update this thread with progress photos. Really don't have a time frame for finishing the car - right now we want to get color on it before winter.

Looks all to familiar! Two cars in two summers is enough for me for a while. And as I say that I have a '68 mustang to completly primer and paint inside and out, and my brother in law's Pinto cruisin wagon when he gets it ready. Plus I think I am helping him replace the cowl in the Pinto.

OK - let me introduce (to those that don't know who is who LOL) ANDY above (who I bought the MacTools Race car from) back in what Andy 2006.
He isn't a "lurker" - I called to ask about some TAPE I found on the race car and if he put it on? THEN RAGGED him for not seeing the thread / being on SVOCOP! So let's all welcome Andy - then ban him until he buys another SVO!! (Last car he sold was the 85.5 4E to Mike , now with Tony) It really goes to what we were talking about before, how our community is pretty tight and how we help (or hide each others cars) at others houses from our wives!
So Andy when you are tired this carhttp://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e136/svo2scj/IMG_5100_zps557b2849.jpg (http://s38.photobucket.com/user/svo2scj/media/IMG_5100_zps557b2849.jpg.html) - there many choices less than an hour away ! Just have to keep you from wanting this

I cant wait to see the giveaway car when its back at the house...let me know when it comes home. Ok....here's the deal - Im getting a few titanium screws in my right arm tomorrow (freak bowling accident) which means Im going to be off work for a while. Still going to Colombia over the holidays, but Ill have a couple of weeks where Im doing J.S. (jack s..t) so if youre around Id love to come over and check it out. On the 68-69 Fairlane front....would love to have the real R version...would settle for the formal roof with a big block.
gimme a buzz over the next couple days

I didn't know Prototype worked on your car. I thought Roush built the motor in your car. They built the motors in both of my showroom stock cars.

Roush did the motor blueprint build - NO ROUSH stickers on it. My guess is they PAID Jack (actually Red) for the work ! LOL

So after looking on Ebay for Fog lights, weeding through all the wrong style glass, ect ect I thought "just use what you have" http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e136/svo2scj/photo1_zps3d04c9c0.jpg (http://s38.photobucket.com/user/svo2scj/media/photo1_zps3d04c9c0.jpg.html)

What is the correct style for your car? That is something that "if you were restoring an early Mustang' would be quite very aware of differences. In this case Clear lens, with no indents for cat eyes My guess is Ford ACCEPTED Marchal lights sent with the later style cat in 1986

Do you want lights without the Marchal cat? I have a set from a T/C that have "plain" lenses.

I'm aware of several differences which is why I asked. I believe there are other differences even in the early lights/lenses. I've done some research on these and have collected some data but always looking for new info.

Are you saying it has a cat but not black? I'm confused. Pictures?

Yes If you look at post #74 (can pinch on a smart phone) you can see that the originals are 100% clear (but you can see the heat deflector inside. The NOS units are different style (but you can only see the one) Mark

Interesting, don't think I ever saw a lens w/o a black cat (except for old ones where the cat fell off ;) ) I need to review some pictures. I know there are different types of fonts for the lettering. ;)

Mark, here's something I've been wondering. Was the giveaway cars trim originally left factory '85 charcoal grey or was it repainted black to match the race car???
BTW, looking awesome mate:):):)

Bobby repainted all the trim black (to match the race car) when he shot the yellow and red. I had to use early tail lights but latter radio. For now it is getting dovetail seats -as Bill (who wasn't 100% honest with me) bought my NOS 84 cloth seat covers , didn't use and won't sell back!

Cool. So curious, did you use an SEM trim black or more of a semi-gloss black??
TheSVOTrust
12-04-2013, 08:39 AM
Didn't use SEM nor can. We used catalyzed semi-gloss (Nason) as we had all of the reducer and Catalyst from the single stage white. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e136/svo2scj/th_IMG_2392_zpse692ced6.jpg (http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e136/svo2scj/IMG_2392_zpse692ced6.mp4)

So your steering wheel has "wrap" on it (so you know what that means)! After putting a NOS shift knob on DO I HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHEEL?? (I have using my parts) Mark

Going the "other direction" with the trailer this Labor Day !! LOL You guys have fun - member here found a show in NY for us while there for the weekend.
Mark
P.S. Need a white SVOCOP long sticker - that way the cars match! (other than the windshield eyebrow banner - that will be fixed next)

We AVOID the PA Turnpike due to the $105.00 fee with the trailer ! I will be running 90 to Albany and return "maybe" on 80.
I really could go to Phila as I have a French Provincial bedroom I need to deliver to the Pocono's ! But this is a bonzi run with planes on either end.
Lot's of stress that will only be relieved when in AZ in January !
