moldings can they be painted ???

[scenario]

The side moldings on the door of the SVO, can these be painted successfully. I did the trim paint semi gloss black and it looks great. The moldings look close to black but I believe they are charcoal. I just want everything to match the best I can. I could leave them but I know they will be slightly off.

I was thinking about painting them to match?

Anyone ever paint them and if so could they recommend what paint they used?

Yes you can paint them make sure they are thoroughly clean make sure there is grease or oil on them . I did mine with no problems.

You can paint them and depending on the year of car they will be semi-gloss black '(84) or charcoal grey ('85-6). You need to prep them like anything else you want to paint; gentle scuff with a red scotchbrite, clean with a good wax and grease remover, I prefer PPG DX-330, and then prime and paint to match.

DO NOT remove the thin metal strip from the backside as the molding will shrink. You can remove the double sided tape from the rear by scraping, but the better removal method is a big round eraser like tool you get from paint supply stores.

Thanks! I wire wheeled very carefully the original double sided tape. Came off very easy and I did not disturb the metal strip. All intact.

Any recommendation on what brand or type of spray paint to use?

I would use Sem product for paint & 3M tape for a good results.
