Water Cooled Turbo Service Replacement TSB

Any idea where the details of this TSB could be found? I'm trying to figure out some of the weird hoses on my car in order to replace them. I know my car was upgraded with a water cooled turbo at 60,000 miles and figure it was done as per the TSB.

Doubtful I'll find the 'correct' hoses so more than likely I'll have to find an alternate solution.

The above shows the 85.5/86 coolant hard lines, hoses, clamps and fittings. The "conversion" TSB uses a large hump hose that goes over the rear of the cam cover to the oil cooler as a retrofit. and does not use the long tube that goes around the rear of the cam cover.

Finding a full set of good condition stock tubes is not easy these days (I have a full set of NOS, but they're NOT cheap) and last I heard the SS reman units tubes Forced4 are all long gone.

Post pics pf the tubes/hoses/fittings you have and I can get you pics of where they go. Another weekend project.

Yes I saw those pics of the diagram during my searching but didn't see the 'weird' hose that goes up and over the valve cover. The 'conversion' you describe sounds like it! Somewhere I read that hose may be from a XR4Ti?

Also the hose to the bottom of the intake is not the molded hose w/ 2 90deg bends as I saw in some pictures, but just a straight section of hose.

Gotta love that twisty pretzel hose connected to the heater core! :confused:

I'll post some pictures of what I have as half of it looks original and the other half has hoses/tubes with service replacement decals. The PO told me the turbo was replaced at 60,000 but not sure if the dealer did it or he did it himself?

PM me you price on the NOS tubes, at least I'll know what 'not cheap' is. :D

I've had good luck with Inline tube, I'm wondering if they could make up a set of tubes and maybe even something more custom to help clean things up a bit? I'm not looking to keep this car 100% stock looking but will hang on to all of the original pieces just in case.

The TSB # is 86-6-12. I found all the info at All Data DIY I believe but any site that lists automotive TSB's should have it. The funky hose that goes over the valve cover is indeed an XR4Ti part, Mercury part number, and apparently makes removing the valve cover quite a chore.

Here's some pics of an '84 with said TSB. It's the only car I've ever seen apart from my '84 t-top with this swap completed to TSB specs.

I certainly have the funky XR4Ti hose, so that part was done but I see other differences too. I need to remove the intercooler to get a better look. I notice I have a later breather cap and the tube to it has a service part decal on it too. Not sure why that would have been updated? My heater hoses look different too.

Lots of E5 and E6 numbers on the parts and here I thought I had an 84! :D

The pictures you posted....are they an 84 SVO? Is the metal line that goes from the heater core, under the turbo, to the front, is that typical of what is found on an original 84 car? :confused:

On the 84's and early 85's the coolant tubes that run form the thermostat bypass and water pump connections go under the exhaust manifold. I have some assembly diagrams of those earlier tubes that I can post later.

Thanks, before you take your time to post, let me see what I can find. I need to dig out my documentation, service manuals, etc. It's been so long I forget what SVO related info I have! Just came across a box with some NOS hoses! :D Forgot I got them with a big stash of 2.3L goodies I bought many years ago. Even if they don't work for my application maybe they will be of use for reference material.

Did a quick search of my documentation (came across a 2.3L EFI Turbocharged Engine manual reprint ;)) and found a good illustration on page 16 even though it's shown from the drivers side. Also went through my 83TC pictures and found pictures showing the lines going under the exhaust manifold. And here all the time the info was right under my nose! :D

Would you like individual pictures of the hoses with the part numbers? Not sure why I have 2 tags w/o hoses? E5ZZ-18472-A & E5ZZ-18472-C.

I bought a bunch of 2.3L stuff :cool: awhile back and just remembered I inventoried the items and took these pictures.

Here is the invoice for the hoses for additional info.

I also have original hoses on my 83 TC and will have to document them too.
