Mustang 50th anniversary at Charlotte Motor Speedway April 16-20 2014

So I wanted to get the ball rolling for the East coast fans. We're looking for someone from that contention to take this post over. I have specifics relating to obtaining reserved parking & can pass along the spreadsheet we have put together for the Vegas event. I'm also looking for someone to ship an SVOCOP banner to. We do still have SVOCOP apparel for anyone looking to support & promote the SVOCOP.

Main reason for me going is to deliver a very large part than I picked up local for an FEP member in the Midwest. I attended the 35th and didn't have my Mustang there either. I did the three track laps in my Ranger.

This event is strikingly close to the days I will be driving to Alaska. I would definitely take the long way there is this falls on the same dates.

Good Lord willing, I'm going! I was debating which car to bring, but I'm leaning toward the 85.5 1c so I can do track time and it's much more presentable than the Trash car is; probably gonna be easier on the back too.

I'm going for sure but will be driving my 94 Cobra. Looks like I'm selling the white SVO and the green one is not up to that kind of trip yet.

I'm taking at least two, possibly 3 cars. The svo, 79 pace car & 05 saleen, I'd like to park and display with other SVO's if at all possible?

Welcome aboard! That is not a problem. Larry will have the list, I still owe him the email address for the POC for the parking list. Just be sure you have all cars registered prior to adding your contact info to the list. The MCA checks the parking list info against the registered attendee to confirm you are registered if you are on the parking list.

Ok I have the power point and spread sheet from Steve at the MCA. We need a minimum of 20 cars registered and willing to park together outside the main entrance on a paved surface near hospitality village 1. This area will allow you to come and go with your SVO as you please. If you are registerd for Charlotte and would like to park with us please contact me.

Yes, but you need to check on availability. I have heard that some days are already filled up.

After Larry had to bow out for other commitments, no one else offered to step up to handle the MORE parking. It's still available if 20 plus registered cars are on the list.

I will be at Vegas with the wife's 88. If you need anything sent down like a banner let me know. I'm not sure if the More helps out those with truck and trailers paid parking.

We have a thread for the Vegas event. I'll have two large banners with me.
It's a good idea to sign up for MORE parking, it doesn't cost anything. If you would like to be added to the list just shoot me a pm for the details. You would have the benefit of coming & going as you please & having assigned parking. BTW, you're invited to the rental house for bbqs if you want to stop by Kevin.

Well we're back from Charlotte. What an unorganized mess. I stood in line at various tents three quarters of the day Thursday just to get this and that, that we were signed up for to receive.
The last straw was the MCA tent where I stood in line for 45 minutes to buy 3 t-shirts using a credit card instead of cash, get 6 people away from paying and their card machine breaks and all they are taking is cash(which I didnt have any with me at the moment). I threw them down on a table and left.
For all the hype about the show, it sure didnt seem all that special to me. Bill Ford drove a 2015 Mustang out for everyone to see at the opening ceremony on Thursday morning, but sitting up in the grandstand and the car beeing down on the track it was kinda ho-hum. It started raining on Friday evening just in time for the big cruise to Kanapolis and never let up until sometime in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
I hope Carlisle Productions does a better job than MCA this year.

I was there. I did pretty good Friday until the rain came. I had to stand under a sign until my wife came and picked me up. Went to Daniel Carpenters Museum Sat morning only to find out it was closed on Sat. We packed up and went home. I drove 16 hours to walk around for 4.

Yeah, we were going to go there on Sturday too, and discovered that on Friday night they would be closed. Not cool. You would think they would have made an exception for one Saturday if they arent normally open.

Yeah guys I would agree, it was a cluster. I spoke at length with a vendor and they said Ford had offered to throw large amounts of money at the event(not just be a sponsor) and really put on a nice show but the MCA, as he put it, "once again" f'd the whole thing up. It was great to see so many SVO's and other unique Fox mustangs(SSP's) there but wow, the 05 and ups dominated the show field. I was disappointed overall with the event, I thought it would be a little more of a bigger deal, of course this is just my take on the whole thing. The rain on Saturday just killed it too. Looks like Vegas had more classics and a better representation of mustangs through the 50 years in the ford display. I got some pretty good pics, I'll try and post up later tonight.

BTW, I found the NASCAR HOF a great experience and I would say I'm not even into NASCAR. Whoever designed and laid out the HOF had great vision. Seems like that was the big attraction on Saturday due to the rain. I also missed out on on Carpenters facility tour and museum. :(

We got there on Thursday afternoon, took about 15 minutes to pick up our package at the Embassy Suites, went over to the track straight into the MORE parking area, took the tram to gate one, looked around until 5 and went to happy hour. I saw the forcast for Saturday so we hit it hard on Friday. It started sprinkling on the way out of the track. Decided to call it and go home on Saturday morning. I saw a couple of SVOs out on track a couple in the MORE parking lot and one in the infield. Had it not rained I could have spent Saturday looking at cars but it is what it is. Being 60 I doubt I'll make the 100th so I made the best of it I suppose.
