Been having troubles with overboost lately. Previous owner had a cheapo boost valve installed and had it routed wrong. I bought a gillis valve since it seems to be a highly thought of valve. After the install it overboosted like crazy. So I lowered boost and there was no difference. Kept lowering boost on the knob and nothing changed. I went back through the install and made sure everything was done correctly and all hoses on tight and ports plugged correctly.. All was well. All of the boost control was already removed from previous owner already. After no success, I hooked a vacuum pump to the wastegate, pumped it up to 10psi and the arm did actuate, I blew through the hose going to the wastegate and could not blow through, so i just pumped the vacuum up to 10-11 psi and let it sit.. About 5 min. later i came back and it had gone all the way down to 0 reading. My only guess at the moment is that the diaphragm has a light or small tear and is slowly leaking? I just figured if that was the case then i could have blown through the hose with no resistance.
Again, even though the boost valve is self explanitory install, I did follow the gillis supplied instructions to be sure everything is hooked up as recommended via gillis spec. I went through their valve cleaning, and made sure nothing was blocking the pin size hole in the knob, took it apart and made sure the ball and spring were installed in proper sequence.
