Bummer. The loss of a Carrera GT is high on the list too.

Unfortunately the old age "Live by Street Racing, Die by Street Racing" certainly applies here.

"Used to be" until 3:30PM Saturday. Rodas was a racer in SCCA's Pirrelli cup through 2013. He was speeding in a residential/business loop with a 45MPH speed limit. He plowed through a concrete/steel light standard and the momentum of the car kept it going until the car wrapped itself around a tree. Do you think that they may have survived if they were only doing double the speed limit? This may make the 2013 Darwin Awards top 10 list.

Very sad and completely unnecessary tragedy.

This story indicates that Rodas was driving.

I never worked with Paul but friends who did say he was a nice affable guy and a genuine gearhead!!! Undeniably an avoidable tragedy and goes to prove, again, there is a reason to play on the track as opposed to the street.

My only hope is that this event will deter other people from trying to emulate stuff they see in the movies. I can tell you for a FACT, it really is all smoke and mirrors, special cars and stunt drivers all done with VERY rigorous safety controls in place. This event, whilst tragic, again proves that now matter how good you are behind the wheel it only takes one mistake or error in judgement for things to end very badly.

There was a speed limit sign on the concrete and steel light standard that got plowed down before the car wrapped itself around the tree.5770
