Just paid and I only have two things to do to be ready,
1. Rebuild the engine
2. Paint the car
I will be working a lot of overtime so I can pay for this but it's just weekends about 8 of them.

... I only have two things to do to be ready,
1. Rebuild the engine
2. Paint the car Reminds me of the difference between Ford and Ferrari service manuals.

Ford has 157 steps under the title "Remove Engine": Drain oil, drain coolant, remove this bracket, pull this plug, remove this & that, attach chain to bracket, etc.

Ferrari has a single sentence: "Remove engine." Hey look! It's only one step!

It'll take more than just 8 weekends to paint the car.
Better just give up sleeping and work on the car when not at work.

After 5 hours the engine is out, I think the engine has been out before because the fuel return line was cut and put back together with a barb union and hose clamps. Does anyone know of the right way to fix this?

The "proper" way is to replace the whole return line from the engine fuel rail to the fuel tank. One 25-foot section of Nylon 66 fuel line with two straight end 5/16" hose to 1/4 Duckbill fittings will work.

An alternate way is to re-use that double-male barbed fitting and the proper tool to push the tubing onto it (using no clamps as shown in the pic). Then attach (again, using the proper tool) to the open end of hte barb to reach the fuel rail return fitting with a nice round loop.

I don't think the typical 18" replacement end with fitting will be long enough though - measure it compared to the pressure hose and keep the same length. Definitely don't want a kink in that line.

Got the motor all apart, the head looks like there are no cracks that's good sending it off for a valve job on Thursday, when i was pulling the motor out i was under the impression that it has been out before looking at the bearings they are stamped Ford STD and i found gasket parts in the oil pick up. everything has VERY little wear so it should be a easy rebuild. I will start the honing on Thur and the resembling also just have to wait on the head.

Well got the head back and started putting it all back together, I'm down to the lifters and valve cover, intake and exhaust then i can put it back in the car. Just a side note the people that did my head said that they never seen this type of head crack, so if you need your head done take it to NAPA in Palmdale it will come back good.

Update:
good news and bad news.
Good news the motor is in everything back on just wating for the fuel return line to come in and then I can start it.
Bad news as I was laying in bed last night the wife woke me up for something and as I was trying to get back to sleep I remembered that I forgot to install the rear main seal. Now to pull the motor out and put that seal back in. Better now then when I was trying to find the oil leak on first start up.:avataraFu_BangingYo

Good find!

Yeah, that would make a rather large mess in a hurry.

we were talking at workk, if we fab up a pan to put under the bell housing with a sump and pump it back into the motor that would work.

A poor-man's dry sump system! There might be some aerodynamic issues to compensate for.

Rosamond SVO

Not red I don't want to get banned. It will be the same color and I have someone that is going to reproduce the decals.

MikeFleming

Not red I don't want to get banned. It's not up to your wanting to get banned. That decision lives with the person that carries Thor's Ban Hammer, which is Patrick just now.

Just sayin'.

Ok now I'm not banned, 1 I posted Pics 2 it's not RED.
1. Your posted pics were rotated incorrectly. You earned a one-post ban for requiring me to fix the pictures.

2. There was *some* red in the pics (striping on car). One-post ban waived.

While you guys will be in Vegas/Charlotte Ford has asked for MacToolsCar for display at world headquarters on 4/17. I didn't commit to Charlotte as I knew that Ford was doing a "SMALL" event here. There are MANY events with Ford this summer for the 50th. IF ANY is considering Detroit a destination for this year please let me know, consider "invited". I have car booked for June (Carlisle) July (MIS Speedway) Aug (Woodward/Mustang Alley) Mark
