Hey guys i'm new to the forum and i have a 86 SVO. The other day i was driving it home and lost power and it was smoking really bad. I'm thinking its the turbo. I had my exhaust cut out open and you can hear the turbo spool and after it started smoking i didn't hear anything. The motor has maybe 1500 miles on it, it was just rebuilt in the end of summer. I blew the stock t3 in may and it pretty much did the same thing except when i put the new t3/t4 i found out i did some damage to piston number 1 and 4 (also ran alot worse and would not run on its own when i thought just the turbo was bad). But anyways the turbo has some side to side play and up and down play in spots witch i don't think should happen in less then 2000 miles of use and i haven't really been getting on it at all, just normal driving. I had my stock turbo made into a t3/t4 by charlee at evergreen. I'm starting to think its just a Chinese turbo with a clipped wheel, the housing is defiantly Chinese he told me that he made it into a .63ar t3/t4 60trim with the clipped wheel. I'm thinking the seal in the turbo is bad or something? the car still has alot of compression when i try to start it except i haven't been able to get it to start because my starter keep disengaging early. The car has a PIMP ecu and i just had the car tuned by my local turbo shop so i don't think the motor detonated (afr's are about 11.5 on full boost). Ever since i put the turbo in i get really bad compressor surge even with a BOV and i get oil blow back from everywhere, also when i had it dynoed they said the turbo is not giving the car as much power as it should. If you guys could help me out that would be great. Im thinking if its the turbo to go with a turbonetics 60trim stage 1 .48ar t3 with ball bearings or a turbonetics t3/t4 50trim stage 2 .48 with journals. my set up is, Front mount IC, 65mm TB, Gutted upper ported lower intake(square), greddy BOV, 3in DP and elbow, 3in exhaust (after i get it working again), PIMP ECU, 60lb High imp injectors, stock head and block rebuilt and block board 20 over. So the car fairly stock, if you have any other turbo recommendations that would be nice to. Thanks guys,

Welcome to the club & Merry Christmas.

When you replaced the turbo, did you replace the oil feed line?

From what you have mentioned, your car is far from stock. Did you check your PCV system for any blockage?

Call Charlie and ask him what he thinks. In my experiances with him he is easy to deal with. What kind of oil return do you have? Is it kinked? Also take the PCV out and check it to start. Easy and cheap first.

Yeah im going to give him a call tomorrow. At this point i would just like my money back from him. and nope its not kinked i checked it. Its a high temp silicone hose from ATP turbo. Do you think a bad PVC would cause it to smoke though>

Yes. It can cause more damage than smoke too.

Well guys it was just the head gasket. I guess the stock gasket doesnt like 20psi. I got boports street and strip gasket and apr head studs. Thanks for all the help though. The blow head gasket was letting antifreeze go into my turbo and header.
