loose bracket

Anyone know what this bracket is. On my car it is loose and the mounting bolt at the base looks like it has been baked in a kiln. Should there be something routed through the hole?6100

That is for lifting the engine at the factory. Note I wouldn't trust it if you were to use it to remove the engine!

Don't try and just "tighten it" !!!!!!!!! It is very easy to twist the oil line feed under the nut and you will be out $100 (if you want one from me) Mark

There should be another one on the front of the engine behind the alt. Ford left them in after the engines were installed rather than take the time to remove them, however if you ever have to pull the engine these are the two lift points so they come on handy. There are similar ones on the v8 cars also.

Damn, I hate to agree with Mark, especially because we could sell you a replacement line:3stooges:. Don't mess with it. Just be sure the line isn't already kinked. IF it is, an OEM SS replacement can be purchased from SVOCOP. You may not notice until the engine is warmed up.

If you just noticed it was loose it is ok
If you went looking for the source of an rattle that cimes and goes.................
that is from the innercooler to the mount (where the stub holes go in)

SOME take off the support (which I don't recomend/like)
I make a silicone washer ,cure and install over the stubs - no more noises

So that begs the question to all the peeps that have taken the engine out, what is the best way to hoist it? Factory lift brackets (if they are there) or other points of attachment? I ask this because I will be taking my 140k original motor and tranny out using a cherry picker and adjustable lifting rig (idk what the official name is). If my factory brackets are non rusted and in great shape are the suitable for lifting the motor and trans?

I wouldn't hesitate to lift it with them assuming they are tight. I took mine off a long time ago and when I pulled my engine this fall I used the alt. mounting bolt (in the block) and the rear exhaust manifold bolt. Worked just fine with the trans on it.

I always use the factory lift brackets with a chain in=between them (and some cardboard between the chain the cam cover). Then I take the brackets off after it's on the stand or back in the chassis and store them in a secure location.

Note the exhaust bracket is the same for all 2.3L turbo engines while the intake side varies by in-line versus square intake since it mounts using the two front-most intake manifold bolts.
