Hatch roll up cover

Can someone post a picture of a correct hatch cover and where it hooks to on the rear panel? My car was missing it. Porbably the only thing my car is without.

Here's a picture of the cover. A little hard to see how it attaches but there are 2 plastic hooks on the cover that go into the holes in the rear panel as indicated by the green arrows.

Hmmm, didn't even know they had speaker perforations. :confused:

I'm ass-uming my cover is original to the car.

That is why I was questioning if the perferations were year specific. Maybe some of the experts like Kendal or Ken Potter can chime in here?

Understand.... now that you mention it, I do recall speaker perforations but think it was on later cars?

Or maybe it's like the sunroof bag w/ the metal clips, Ford used what they had. :confused:

Most of the ones I own have perforations, but 1 does not. No idea of the year.

I have an '89 Fox without speaker perforations, which I think is due to the fact that the rear speakers are beside the passenger seats instead of inside the hatch. I would venture to guess that later cars wouldn't have perforations.

84's had no speaker holes and attached to the top of the rear panel on the top of the panel - the hatch lid protrusion would interfere with the cover handle. The two round holes, ~3/4" dia, are just to the sides of where the hatch latch opening is.

Later cars (85+??) had speaker holes in the rear corners and the handle attachment holes were lower in the forward-facing portion oif the rear panel. The hatch cover did not interfere with the cover.

87 & on cars has speakers next to the back seats and the rear cargo cover is a different size I believe

Interesting. I haven't used the cover much but do recall some kind of interference. I'll have to check it out.

Yes I knew the 87-93 mustang hatch covers hook on higher up. There are two different width hatch covers for 87-93, has to do with the width of where the cover locks in on the side panels. I was curoius about the earlier year fox bodies.
Next question, anyone have a nice one for sale for svo?

Okay so what do you think would be messed up on mine, early 84 car the holes are forward facing on the panel but the hooks on the cover do not match the width of the holes and seem to be for top holes. I just find it weird that the back panel would be changed out? No speaker holes in the cover.

Maybe this will help determine the problem w/ your cover. This is from a 84 (10/83).

I checked and with the hatch closed there is no interference with the cover or hooks.

My '84 does not have speaker holes.
I have a '88 and my wife has a '91 and the hatch covers are not interchangeable between the two.

Anyone ever attempt to refurb the spring on these? Mine retracts, but it's not tight like my 93. I'm assuming the spring has become limp over the years of tension. It needs some spring viagra.

Not sure the 93 is the same as the earlier ones but:

FourEyedPride has a good writeup on how to repair them.

It may be unwound slightly. IIRC you can actually wind them back up. I cant remember though which way you wind it.
