when I retired a piece of equipment that pre-dates me on the job. The last of our CISCO 2511 modem pool routers and associated POTS modems were retired, never to be connected to our network again. The end of an era.

Wow...I retired some Shiva Lan Rovers a few years back for a client who just didn't believe in VPN and the Internet.

Back in the day we had two C2511's and a total of 32 POTS dial-in modems for road warriors. Back in the day when 9600 baud was considered "fast". The collection of dial-in devices has steadily declined over the decades with the use of VPN, https, BYOD, etc. I still recall my first external modem - rated at 110/300 baud - it was fast enough for computing at that time (1982?).

Now my slowest WAN link is 1Gbps. Times have changed.
