Ok so i bought a 3" downpipe and it has flanges for an external wastegate. I blocked off those flanges and now realize that without the 3" down elbow the actuator off the wastegate wont have anything to attach too. If i just leave it blocked off will it hurt anything if i drive carefully untill i get an external wastegate?

So essentially the internal wastegate is just blocked off.

Well never mind I figured it out as long as I watch my boost gauge I'll be good

I figured it out as long as I watch my boost gauge I'll be good IMHO, BAD idea.

There's lots more stuff to do while driving than watching gauges.

This is a rare occasion, I agree with Mike. There, you're banned until your next post, for bringing me to that point in my life.

Well im babying the car it is my daily. I could go with a cheap godspeed wastegate but im going to save up for a tial. I also have an added layer of protection if I go over 10 psi my clutch slips lol. thanks for the input guys

I dont know how much you know about the system so Ill jt say this Ass-U-M'ing you dont know. Do you have the stock manifold? if so there is no provision for a external waste gate. The waste gate goes before the turbo, the tube in your down pipe is the exhaust for your wastegate. If you want a external wastegate you need either a manifold with that flange or an adapter between your manifold and turbo.
I advise against the adapter and Im not a real fan of tubular manifolds, they move your turbo and tend to crack, the price tends to reflect how long till they crack.
theres a new manifold that look good but I haven't seen any used ones or reviews. Its called Ignari, they started at about $200 last year and are now $350+.

My downpipe has the flanges built onto it, its not on the manifold so the wastegate will be after the turbo.

That's for the exhaust of the waste gate, the waste gate can't stop the exhaust gas from spinning the turbine after the turbine. a external Wastegate has to go before turbo, so it doesn't release un muffled exhaust into atmosphere it then takes the exhaust gas that it made bypass the turbo and dumps it into that flange on your down pipe.
If you want to keep that down pipe Id suggest picking up the 3" wastegate housing from stinger, cutting of the flange that you bolted to your turbo and using a strap clamp that he sells also.
That looks like the cheapest option to keep you 3", or go back to stock.
I am assuming the 3"you have is welded to a flange that replaces your wastegate housing?

Yes it replaced my factory housing the man i bought it off of had a wastegate bolted to it when i purchased it it was on his 2.3. there is two flanges welded to the downpipe. One of the flanges leads to where the factory wastegate flapper was and i currently have that blocked off. The other runs back into the downpipe from the wastegate.

Uhh for most maybe, but even a pic might not help folks like me to understand what he has & what he needs.

I need a external waste gate I was just asking if it would be detrimental to my SVO to drive it without a wastegate.

Only if you blow the head gasket or worse!

so on the flange that covers your original wastegate there is a tube? I have never seen that before!! thats a good idea!
Yes, it is bad, you have NO control on boost and your turbo is much faster then your reaction time, it will spike and possibly, more then likely, damage something.

is your down pipe similiar to this? if so I would connect the tubes instead of blocking them off. You will have NO boost but you wont blow a gasket.

Yes it is similar to that and i thought the same but it will build boost I have only let it get up to like 5-8 psi though

Is this a custom pipe or what brand is it? I'm interested in waste gate alternatives. Can you take a picture?
