View Full Version : Sturgis Mustang Rally 2014 Accomodations

If you haven't heard, Mitch won't be making Sturgis this year (please hold your applause until the end) so Stacey and I have agreed to set up the accommodations this year. Mitch has agreed to coordinate with the show so we are assured of having our SVO class. With all that said, here goes.....

It’s time again, to begin preparations for SMR. I would like to return again to the same place we were in last year (cost last year per person for the entire week was about $256). Those that were there the last two years can attest to how much fun we had just at the house alone. We had a two car garage with a nice clean, cool & flat floor to work on. There was ample driveway space to park an additional 4 SVOs for simple maintenance & cleaning. It was just as affordable if not more so than staying in a hotel. The peaceful quite surroundings made it seem more homely than any hotel would have. Most of all, the wives gave it their approval:like3:.

Right now I am looking for a head count for who is going this year. The house can sleep 16, but I would rather not have more than 14. If there enough people planning on going, we can look into a second house or possibly a larger place. They have some that sleep up to 25, but they are further from Sturgis.

I will be working out payment arrangements with the rental agency the next few days and will post information here as I get it. My intent is to handle it the same way Mitch did last year with payment being made directly to the rental agency.

If you are planning on going & would like to be on the list for the rental house, please reply to this post (or send me a PM) with your headcount & number of vehicles you will be bringing (please include trailer count).

There are also hotels available for those that would prefer to go that route. A list of participating hotels can be found on the SMR website.

If you need any additional information, please ask. If you've never been to the Sturgis Mustang Rally, you have no idea what you're missing (there is even a NAPA store within 4 or 5 miles from the rental house...what more could an SVO owner ask for!).

Count me in for 2 (Doug & Kelly), 1 SVO and 1 tow vehicle/trailer.

Really bummed out, but I know I'll have my hands quite full. As Dave mentioned, the house is very spacious. Not only do they have a very helpful NAPA near by, but there are a few other hole in the wall shops that carry lots of odd ball stuff. We even found a starter/alternator rebuild shop that had the replacement connectors needed to fix Dave's 3g wiring.

The neighbors across the street were a riot. You'll be hard pressed to find a more comfortable accommodation that isn't your own home.

I spoke with Executive Lodging and our regular place has already been rented for the week. I was given some other options, and here they are. I'm looking for input. All are located close to the place we usually rent. We have been promised the pricing we have received the past two years.
Take a look at the other places (click on the name and it will take you to that page) and let me know (they are listed in order of price, lowest to highest).

(http://executive-lodging.com/lodges/hilltop-haven/)Hilltop Haven (http://executive-lodging.com/lodges/hilltop-haven/)- 4 bedrooms 3 bathrooms, located 9 miles from Sturgis in Boulder Canyon (shirttail gulch development)-just started renting in January.
Aces and Eights Lodge (http://executive-lodging.com/lodges/aces-and-eights-lodge/)- 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, same area as Hilltop Haven (the driveway is gravel)
Pillar Peak Lodge (http://executive-lodging.com/lodges/pillar-peak/)- 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, located 7 miles to Sturgis and 3 miles to Deadwood in Boulder Canyon (road to lodge is 1/10 mile of gravel)
Mollys Folly (http://executive-lodging.com/lodges/molly-s-folly/)- 5 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms located in Lead by High Stakes Haven
Mtn View Manor (http://executive-lodging.com/lodges/mountain-view-manor/)- 7 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms located in Lead by High Stakes
Canyon Rim Lodge (http://executive-lodging.com/lodges/canyon-rim-lodge/)- 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, located 7 miles from Sturgis and 3 to Deadwood in Boulder Canyon (the driveway is gravel)

I would say the 1st one (Hilltop) or the last one (Canyon). Do we know yet how many rooms we need?

DaveS

Those two look pretty good to me too. I have a few more questions for the Executive Lodging people.
Not sure yet how many rooms we need; I still haven't heard from all the regulars yet and hope that some first-timers will join us this year too.

Scratch the last one...I just got word the driveway is gravel! I also added notation regarding a gravel road to one of the other lodges.

Any of the places without a gravel driveway are fine with me, provided there are enough rooms for everybody going. So far it looks like Dave & Stacey, Doug & Kelly, and myself are going. Haven't seen any postings from the others yet. But we need room for everybody which is hard to do without commitments. If they are all the same price get the biggest one I guess?? Thanks!

I'll see what I can find out in Vegas this week. I'm going to try to get some interest from folks here.

From what I've heard, the registration line in Sturgis is not nearly as long a wait as your dealing with in Vegas.

Sturgis is in & out & they take ownership to any issues. We've heard that the lines in Charlotte are just as bad as those in Vegas. Thank You MCA!

Thank You MCA! Uh, Yeah. This is my second - and LAST - MCA event. Same cluster both times.

Vegas and Charlotte looked like lots of good times....but now that they are in the rear view mirror, we need to start thinking about Sturgis. I plan to contact the rental agency and start locking in our lodging for Sturgis and would like to know how many need accommodations. Post on this thread, or send me a PM if you're interested in attending or need additional information.
I'll have the '84CP ready for the autocross, I'm sure Doug has sorted out whatever he needs to to be at peace with the cone gods...and Tom will be breaking in his SVO (he left his SVO at home last year)...I'm expecting a good year from those that have already said they are going.

Without Mitch there, the air should be fresher in the rental home...just saying.

Without Mitch there, the air should be fresher in the rental home...just saying. I hear they now have an aerosol fragrance called "Mitch". On the shelf at Wal-mart right next to Wet Dog perfume.

Just a thought.

I plan to finalize the rental contract over the next two weeks. It's down to three places (final decision will be based on the total number of people wanting to rent).

Hilltop Haven (http://executive-lodging.com/lodges/hilltop-haven/)- 4 bedrooms 3 bathrooms, located 9 miles from Sturgis in Boulder Canyon (shirttail gulch development)-just started renting in January.
Mollys Folly (http://executive-lodging.com/lodges/molly-s-folly/)- 5 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms located in Lead by High Stakes Haven
Mtn View Manor (http://executive-lodging.com/lodges/mountain-view-manor/)- 7 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms located in Lead by High Stakes

Right now, there are six who have comitted to going, and I know of two more who are trying to make it work. Estimated cost per person for the week is between $290 and $390 (aerosol fragrance called "Mitch" not included) depending on the rental and how many go. If anybody else wants to stay at the rental, this is the time to speak up!
Let me know if you have any questions.

Accommodations are reserved at a new place this year, Hilltop Haven (http://executive-lodging.com/lodges/hilltop-haven/) (4 bedrooms 3 bathrooms, located 9 miles from Sturgis in Boulder Canyon (shirttail gulch development)). We are getting a preferred rate for being a repeat customer. As it stands, 8 have committed to attending and staying in the rental. I talked with Executive Lodging, and if more people want to attend Sturgis this year, we can apply all of our rental payments to a larger place…so if you want to attend there is still time, reply to this post or send me a PM.

I have sent an email to those that have committed with payment information. Updates will be emailed out periodically.

Nice place Dave! I looked at that one for the first year, but I wasn't sure if it would accommodate the group we had then. After our week in Vegas at the rental house there, we all came to the realization that we were spoiled by the house in Sturgis. The Vegas rental met our needs, but it was not as nice nor as well stocked as the Sturgis rental.

I have a request for those that attended last years Sturgis event. I am missing a MCguard socket key to remove the security lugnut on the SVO. This is not the stock setup but an aftermarket type. If you could look through your toolboxs for it I would appreciate it.

Meotchh

Do you have a pic of the socket or the lug nut it's used on?

Here are pictures of the wheel and the socket key type. This key is from the lock on the Cobra. I'm pretty sure that we removed the locks from the 1B and exchanged them with lugnuts from the 7B to facilitate exchanging tires and wheels at the track.
