zip ties on fuel line connectors?

Hi,

I remember there being a black zip tie on the input to the frame-mounted pump when I took the fuel system out, but nowhere else. Should there be zip ties on any of the other push connectors?

Also, I didn't take a good picture of the zip tie going into the pump, so I'm not sure how to put a new one in. Any advice or pictures of what it should look like when done?

Depends on how it's used. Zip ties are NOT structural devices.

Zip ties would be OK to restrain the line (or wiring harnesses) from moving suspension items, for example. But totally inadequate for retaining a hose end to a barbed fitting.

Also note that most zip ties have a limited lifetime dependant on time, weather and sunlight exposure, temperature extremes, fuel and oil exposure, etc.

Hmm, maybe 'zip tie' isn't the right description. Here is the picture of what was on mine when I took it apart. I'm asking about the long black plastic thing attached to the fuel pump.

That looks like it's being used to double-retain the fuel line end clip. I have done that to all my end connections for decades.

The opaque-colored thingie is the replaceable clip that holds the black fuel line fitting to the metal tube. The green tie-wrap is merely insurance against the clip coming out.

If you always use "new" retainer clips on all the fuel line connections you don't need zip ties.

I'm thinking they used them from the factory?
