Drop a 4 cylinder turbo in a Mudstain, an SVO it makes not.

Apparently no one remembers what the SVO was truly about, nor do they remember how much of a skid mark in Ford's underwear it was.

90% of those idiots don't remember that is was considerably more for an SVO than a GT, and that the HP ratings were damn near identical, but despite the powertrain, that's where the SVO leaves the GT by the way side.


Ford is doing the right thing by letting darker marketing flops stay dead.

Watch out, cause all the morons are gonna be slapping SVO badging on their Turdstang's and making them SVO's!




Save an ECOBoost Mudstain, buy an SVO and really show people that your a true pioneer for punishment!

I see no chance of Ford attempting a new SVO, for the reasons Jeff mentioned above. Add to it, the big reason for the 4 cylinder eco boost is not for high performance reasons. It's for fuel economy. The eco boost is Ford's way of meeting the standards put upon them by the gubment. Will people drive them strictly for the fuel economy? Possibly, but a small number of them will see that 320+hp figure before they see the possible fuel economy figure. Another small number of buyers will work towards 400+hp just because. But the car will not include the styling cues, performance advantages, & technology advancements over all other models to make it what the SVO was.
I think there maybe a difference in this 4 cyl turbo, in that today's sales people may push the sales of them vs the uneducated sales people of the 80's. But the fuel economy reason for that push today, should have been one of the many advantages of the SVO.

Agreed. I doubt they'll reinstate the moniker because the S.V.O. division doesn't exist. Some people would like to see it as homage (Kinda like the Taurus SHO), but it would need more than an Ecoboost engine for a proper tribute.

I think I'm in the "Mustang ST" camp.

"Ecoboost" is fitting for Escapes, and Fusions, but not Mustangs. ;-)

When Ford (http://www.autoblog.com/ford/) announced that its 2015 Mustang (http://www.autoblog.com/ford/mustang/) would arrive with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, three letters came to mind: SVO. While Ford hasn't said a word regarding the rebirth of a Mustang SVO model, this latest set of spy shots shows us something very, very interesting. Allow us to explain.

The Mustang prototype in these photos looks very similar to the GT500 (http://www.autoblog.com/ford/shelby+gt500/) test cars we've spotted before - same bulging hood, aggressive front fascia and air vents aft of the front wheels. What's different, however, is around back. Have a look at the exhaust (http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-mustang-svo-spy-shots/#photo-2622279), and note that instead of the GT500's usual quad pipes, two of the exhaust outlets have been capped off.

Our spies point out that these exhaust outlets could be closed for some sort of emissions testing or another engineering reason, but it's also important to note that the engine and exhaust notes of this car sound completely different from earlier GT500 prototypes. That exhaust note sounds very similar to a fellow local club member's 2013 V6 w/Motorsport exhaust setup. It certainly could be a 2.3L EcoBoost, but my bet is on a V6, FWIW.

What makes an SVO? Was it the engine? The technology for the FI, intercooling and turbocharging? The exterior styling with the hood and spoilers? The interior and seats? The handling, performance and brakes? All the luxury items? For me it was all of these things rolled together in one package. It wasn't any one item, but the package together that made the SVO. For the next generation SVO what would I want? I want a handling package with really good brakes, great seats, decent performance and crisp steering. Do I care what engine it has? No. A V8 or a 6 is going to have better performance, better fuel economy, reliability and lighter weight than what we have. Give it all wheel drive for traction if need be, forgo the off center hood and rear spoiler if they have to. Make it push the boundaries of performance and technology though. To me that's what the SVO did. Its a flagship of what could be.

Boss 302 package with the Ecoboost motor and some nice exterior touches would be pretty close. My money is that car in the vid was a V-6.

It doesn't sound like a 4 cylinder to me either. Supposedly the new 4 cylinder Mustang will have more horsepower than the v6 version. I'd like to see something similar to the SVO in that it is a track performance based car. Like what Chalky said, a boss 302 platform with the ecoboost and some exterior tweaks would be great. If done right, it should handle fantastically with the new IRS. Regardless, whenever they are out I'm still going to test drive one. And I'll probably drive the SVO to the dealership to do it, because it's only fitting.

I guess the good news about all this is that it is great publicity for the SVO's. I bet a lot of people who are ready stuff about the SVO had no idea it ever even existed.
