fuel pump relay

Had new Walbro pump installed. Solved my hot no start and boost stumble problems. Was running good past 2 weeks but last evening; no start and silence from the fuel pump. I suspect the relay. Could someone give me a basic how to on where the relay on my '86 will be found and what to do to change it out? Under the passenger or drivers seat? Do I need to remove the carpet and or seat? Should I source a new relay from NAPA or my Ford dealer?
Also had the torn rag joint replaced with a solid steering shaft from maximum motorsports. It is awesome and MM were very helpful over the phone.

Relay is under the driver's side seat. Should be accessible if you move the seat all the way forward, from the rear of the seat (depending on how flexible you are and your patience level). Otherwise, remove the seat for complete access.

Relay choice is yours. I've had reasonable good luck with parts from Napa. But if you can source one from FoMoCo, that would likely be better.

Also, it would be best to check the plug at the back of the car (near the rear bumper) with a test light to ensure that the circuit is indeed "dead" prior to swapping the relay. It "could" also be the cut-off switch in the back of the car.....

Fuel pump relay is under the drivers seat, mounted to a metal bracket by a white plastic slide on/off retainer (a new retainer was included with the part I bought from NAPA- $25). Also included was a cheap metal tool for prying things; but a metal hook tool worked well for me. Pried the old relay off the old retainer; then pushed on the green plug where it says PUSH and removed the relay. Plugged in the new one and found it easier to use the old plastic retainer to mount it to the bracket vs. trying to pry it out and using the new one. Relatively simple and accessible; but not much slack in the wires making it tricky to manipulate the relay once it is plugged in. Also a good opportunity to vacuum under the seats. Question; can a relay problem be sporadic? My car wouldn't start (and silence from the pump) on the hottest day we've had recently. When I began my procedure this morning I tried turning on the ignition and I heard the pump come on (of course). Replaced the relay anyway. I really like this car:).70917092709370947095
