What are the differences form the early pan with 2 bolt sizes and the late 1 piece gasket type? Do they have physical differences besides the bolt hole size? Are the pans inter changeable? Thanks Bruce

Do they have physical differences besides the bolt hole size? The gasket compressing "dimple" over the hump is missing on the later, single-gasket design and, iirc, the placement of holes that go into the front seal cover are different.
Are the pans inter changeable? Not successfully. The front cover holes are placed differently and the issue of sealing with the incorrect (other?) gasket has sealing issues.
Some of the later ones (intended for the one-piece gasket design) are aluminum. Really thick aluminum with a rar structure that appears to be a gearbox support. Heavy. It also does not work/fit onto the early 4-piece gasket design blocks.

I bought a pan from Rock auto. Its steal with the oil level sender hole. I thought it was the same (bolted it on) but ended up with 2 left over bolts. The 2 holes in the front seal cover on the 4 piece gasket turn were missing. Took it off and drilled the holes and put it back on. I hope its going to seal.
