View Full Version : What is this connector? Gray 4 'female' coming off the EEC main harnes

Hi,

This is for my 84 Capri RS Turbo, not an SVO, but I did find a picture in Mike's Red Barron thread of the same connector, also not connected to anything.

I didn't have a wiring harness when I got the car (Technically the previous owner had cut it at the firewall and pulled computer so all I had was the line to the fuel pump), so I don't know of the RS Turbo actually use this. I bought a replacement harness, which I think was from an 84, but I'm not positive.

The connector is the gray one in the upper right with the single yellow wire coming out of it pointing up.

I put the dash back in today and can't find anything that it could plug into.

It has 4 wires going into it:
- 2 yellow with a red stripe, which come together. One of which goes into the EEC harness with a 'bullet' connector to a black wire.
- 1 black with white stripe
- 1 purple (I think)
- 1 Red

All go into the EEC harness, but a quick look at the wiring diagrams I have don't show this connector.

Here is the same connector in Mike's Red Baron thread:

Any help would be appreciated. I even took the dash out looking to see if I'd trapped a wire somewhere!

Thanks,

Chris

Both of those connect to the dash harness in the RF kick panel area, behind the scenes, so to speak.

It's this part of the EEC harness.

Some after pics (edited to show that area in a larger format).

Note the left-most 2-wire thingie there with the opaque sleeve over it is the door jamb light switch connector. Drivers side has three wires in it.

BTW - there are also two separate harnesses that run from the LF kick panel area to the RF kick panel area that are for PDL/PW. Mostly red wires, iirc. Those harnesses run along the top of the firewall, under the front glass, behind the dash. They are not part of the dash harness.

Thanks Mike. The top picture shows the connection a lot better than what I have.

No power windows or doors on mine, so I'm missing all that 'red' wiring.

I'm still looking through my wiring diagrams and can't figure out where this connector goes in the EEC, or where it connects from here. Can you tell from the pictures you have?

Thanks,

Chris

I dug out the original harness that was cut to pieces by the previous owner, removed all the wrapping and traced the wiring.

The two yellow with red stripe:
- one goes to pin 30 in the EEC, which is neutral switch or Octane switch depending on which vehicle you have.
- the second goes to a black wire that goes to the main EEC harness. Since it is black I assume it runs into the bundle of black wires in the harness (mine was cut off)

The red one is power. Runs to a bundle of other red wires, two of which go to 37 and 57, which are power

the purple one goes to pin 32, which is boost control

The black and white goes to the main EEC harness and I couldn't find out where it ends.

Since the 84 RS Turbo didn't have boost control nor an octane switch (and the neutral check is another connector) , I think this connector doesn't go anywhere on my car.

Thanks,

Chris

Yes, boost control is not used on the non-SVO models before 1985. So there would be no connection.

On the SVO, those connectors go to the console switch and relay assembly. A co-mingling of the EEC and dash/console harnesses.

You could always add those parts to your Capri.
