Hey everybody, since I've just recently joined the site, I thought I'd take a moment to introduce my '86 SVO project:

The car was purchased back in 2008 like this:

about a year later, the car went in for paint for the first time and was driven around for a few years with the occasional AutoX here and there:

(I have more pictures, just not on this computer or online, I can add more upon request)

The car then sat for a couple of years in a secure garage as I had moved to Chicago for a job and didn't want to take it with me for fear of it turning into a pile of rust. I then moved back to be reunited but unfortunately that didn't stop the rust, so the car went back for a paint refresh, rust removal, and the installation of something special.

We're getting very near completion but have a few things that have yet to be addressed:

-the black trim pieces need to be cleaned up and repainted
-need to find replacement spats and/or fab up some of my own
-need to replace/restore the headlights and turn markers
-need to paint the side molding on the rear bumper

There are a few other tidbits but it's coming together.

Just curious if you would know the weight diff of the new IRS rear vs the stock solid axle? Nice paint........ :)

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Just curious if you would know the weight diff of the new IRS rear vs the stock solid axle? Nice paint........ :)

From what I've read, it's a 125lb difference vs. an 8.8 solid axle, I imagine the difference is a tad more against a stock 7.5.

Nice color! It's hard to tell from the pictures, is that a stock sunroof?

As far as I know, yes.

Nice looking project! BTW, just bringing your car to Chicago doesn't make it rust...driving in the winter salt solution on the roads certainly will though. I can certainly attest to that, hence the reason my SVO does not see snow any more.

Thanks again guys. Does anyone know if SVPU still sells the fiberglass replacement spats? I'm in dire need for some, I'm debating about making my own using my old ones.

I believe Paul makes them to order, but he may have some in stock. Best to drop him a note/message to check.
