Bellhousing question

Hey, does anyone know how many bolts (and sizes) are required for bell to engine (not including 3 for starter), and if they're all the same?

The starter does not mount to the engine. All of the bolts into the bell are 10x1.5mm threads, same for the two on the top into the rear of the block. There's a total of six, all same length, with one additional one that retains the bottom of the dust shield/spacer to the bell. Four going rearwards through ears on the block into the bell, two going through the bell at the top into the rear of the block. The ground strap (to the firewall) goes on one of those two upper ones (passenger side for non-CP models).

The short one on the left is ~20mm long iirc (that holds the lower portion of the dust shim to the lower part of the bell) so that's make the other ones 45-50mm overall. They have 15mm washered hex heads stock, grade 9.8. Tighten to 30-Ft-Lbs, btw.

Thanks Mike, as always you are the man, pics too! I figure the 10x1.5 are not available? Im short one, so whats my best play, junkyard or can I just use a similar size bolt? Thanks for the quick response and your help, I'm in the middle of a clutch job and just now noticed that i was missing one 10x1.5.

Measure the length using your metric scale tape measure and / or take one with you to your local hardware store. They should have something similar in grade 8.8, although it will probably have a 17mm hex head on it. 10x1.5mm is VERY common and most hdwr store places will stock them - probably not that long in auto parts stores though.

Probably install the one odd one into one of the lower ears on the block where the alignment dowels live. Iirc there is the most room for a larger hex head bolt there [that needs a larger socket].

... they have a very good selection of metric nuts and bolts in grade 8 The metric strength rating of 8.8 is next to the lowest strength rating, equivalent to about a SAE Grade 2. The Metric equivalent to an SAE Grade 8 is Metric rating 12.9.

SAE Grade 8 (strong) is not equivalent to a Metric 8.8 (weak).
